Xabi Alonso Delivers Powerful Message to Inspire Kylian Mbappe Following Real Madrid Comeback

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso emphasized that Kylian Mbappé continues to "improve daily" as the Spanish powerhouse progresses through the Club World Cup elimination rounds.
Mbappé finally entered the expanded tournament during Real's clash with Juventus in the round of 16 on Tuesday, coming on as a substitute for goal-scorer Gonzalo García in the closing 22 minutes of their 1-0 triumph. The French star had missed the tournament's opening three matches due to severe gastroenteritis, requiring hospitalization and experiencing significant weight loss before gradually returning to competitive action.
"He's improving with each passing day," Alonso observed. "Between now and our quarterfinal fixture, his condition will be even stronger. I maintain daily conversations with him, checking on his wellbeing, and I believe he'll be in much better shape for the quarterfinals."
In his brief appearance, Mbappé displayed glimpses of his characteristic pace and precision, making runs beyond Juventus's defensive line to link up with Vinícius Júnior and generate several promising opportunities.
Borussia Dortmund will face this increasingly sharp Mbappé after they narrowly advanced past Sergio Ramos's Monterrey in their own round of 16 encounter.
"I'm quite familiar with Dortmund, and under Niko [Kovać], they concluded the season on a strong note," remarked Alonso, who previously managed Bayer Leverkusen. "Our quarterfinal opponents will present quality challenges, and we'll prepare accordingly to meet them."
Beyond Mbappé's contribution, Alonso appeared satisfied with the beginning of his "new chapter" at Real Madrid. "We must accomplish much with limited resources," the Spanish tactician stated optimistically. "We've only worked together briefly, yet we're contending for major honors. Adjustments were necessary, and the players have embraced this approach effectively.
"Defensive stability and organization are crucial elements we've emphasized from day one," Alonso added. "The squad shows enthusiasm and commitment, which is vital. They're receptive to implementing what our German coaching staff is requesting of them."
