Lamine Yamal has no regrets over Barcelona's unsuccessful bid for Julián Alvarez, saying he's "very happy" with the roster the Catalan club has put together for the 2026–27 season.
Barcelona spent the entire summer attempting to land Alvarez as their headline attacking signing following Robert Lewandowski's exit from the club.
Despite the Argentine forward's willingness to make the move, Atlético Madrid flatly refused to engage in any talks with Barça. The seemingly endless Alvarez saga dragged on until the final hours of the summer window, yet Atléti never budged from their stance, even as their own supporters turned against the player.
The Catalans held out for as long as possible, but their coveted transfer never materialized, and they eventually changed course by signing out-of-favor Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus to address their need for a center forward.
Lamine Yamal: Barcelona Doesn't Lack Goals
Barcelona sporting director Deco confirmed that the club's summer transfer activity concluded with the acquisition of Jesus, which was made official on deadline day.
Yamal made a public appearance that same evening, fresh off a standout performance in which he netted twice during Barcelona's convincing 5–2 victory over Rayo Vallecano. At the red carpet of the Spanish Players Association (AFE) awards gala, Yamal offered his take on Barcelona's failed pursuit of Alvarez.
"Well, I think that right now we are in very good shape, and it shows," Yamal said. "We aren't lacking goals. Obviously, he's a great player, but I'm very happy with the squad that we have."
Through three La Liga matches this season, Yamal's assessment appears to be on point. Barcelona have found the net 12 times without a natural center forward. Raphinha has been deployed as Barça's striker and has hit the ground running with a league-best five goals so far this campaign.
Meanwhile, after a sluggish start to the season, Yamal rediscovered his top form against Rayo and is now setting his sights on what he hopes to achieve throughout the rest of the campaign.

Yamal was honored as the finest player in Spanish football for the second consecutive year at the AFE awards ceremony on Tuesday evening.
The teenage star took to the stage to collect his award and fielded several questions, including one asking him to outline his goals for the 2026–27 season. Yamal's answer was nothing short of decisive.
"Winning the Champions League," Yamal declared.
To end Barcelona's 11-year Champions League drought, he'll need the support of a currently well-functioning attack capable of matching some of Europe's elite sides.
Missing out on Alvarez was a blow, but so far Hansi Flick's squad is doing everything in its power to show it can be just as dangerous without its dream signing. If Yamal can maintain the level he displayed against Rayo and Barcelona's strong early-season form holds, then a European triumph by season's end is far from impossible.
