Liverpool Ace Reveals Stance on Potential Wirtz Signing

Andy Robertson has shared a highly positive evaluation of Liverpool's transfer target Florian Wirtz, while also recounting his own challenging experience facing the 22-year-old on the pitch.
Liverpool has been in discussions with Bayer Leverkusen regarding Wirtz for multiple weeks and appears to be nearing completion of a transfer agreement. The German club is demanding £126.4 million ($172 million), but Liverpool isn't prepared to pay that amount, which explains why negotiations continue. Nevertheless, The Athletic indicates that the transaction is in its "final phases".
Wirtz has expressed interest solely in transferring to Anfield this summer to join the Premier League champions, which has certainly delighted Liverpool fans about the possibility of acquiring one of the world's premier creative talents. Supporters aren't alone in their enthusiasm, as Reds defender Robertson has expressed his own excitement about the potential signing.
"He performed brilliantly against us [Scotland at Euro 2024], I definitely recall that," the 31-year-old mentioned to Sky Sports. "Obviously that match [Germany 5–1 Scotland] was incredibly difficult for us, but he was outstanding, constantly creating problems for us in the half-space, making runs behind our defense, he's very versatile.

"I haven't watched him extensively but I've competed against him and that experience alone was sufficient to recognize he would develop into a top-tier player. We also faced Leverkusen in the Champions League this year and we controlled that game more effectively, which probably made things more challenging for him, but certainly when he played for Germany against us he was exceptional."
Robertson further commented: "We're definitely linked with him, that's undeniable! It's impossible to miss, you can't avoid seeing it. But if we manage to bring him in, then an exciting talent will be joining us. We already have numerous exciting talents in the squad.
"He's a truly excellent player. He'll only strengthen our team, and if he does come through the door, we'll be thrilled to play alongside him."
Robertson's position in the Liverpool lineup faces competition next season as another imminent summer acquisition prepares to challenge for his starting left-back role. Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez is on the verge of joining the Reds, though Robertson remains confident about his own standing against the incoming Hungarian.
