Spurs Star Holds Secret Talks with Mourinho for Shock Summer Move

Reports suggest that Fenerbahçe's head coach José Mourinho has held discussions with Son Heung-min regarding a possible move to Istanbul, with the Tottenham Hotspur skipper reportedly interested in joining forces with his former manager once again.

Despite being appointed as Fenerbahçe's manager in June 2024, Mourinho couldn't lead the Turkish powerhouse to Süper Lig glory as Galatasaray secured another championship in the 2024-25 season. Nevertheless, the legendary Portuguese tactician continues at his post, planning an ambitious transfer strategy to overthrow their longtime rivals.

Son, a beloved figure at Spurs, is among Fenerbahçe's recruitment targets. Mourinho previously coached the South Korean star during his 18-month tenure in north London from November 2019 to April 2021. Under Mourinho's guidance, Son flourished as part of a lethal attacking partnership with Harry Kane.

Journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reports that Son and Mourinho maintain a positive relationship, with the coach allegedly meeting the 32-year-old to discuss a potential Fenerbahçe transfer. The Tottenham legend has shown some decline in performance at the elite level in recent seasons, and following Spurs' Europa League triumph in Bilbao, this summer might present the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a new chapter away from the Lilywhites.

Thomas Frank has since replaced Ange Postecoglou, who led the club to their first major silverware in 17 years.

In January, Tottenham announced they had activated an extension clause in their captain's contract for an additional year, meaning Fenerbahçe would need to pay a transfer fee to acquire Son this summer. Reports indicate Tottenham's asking price for their fourth-highest goalscorer of all time stands at approximately €30 million (£25.6 million, $34.8 million).

While the attacker is reportedly enthusiastic about reuniting with Mourinho, Sabuncuoğlu later stated in another X post that the transfer is unlikely to materialize due to Tottenham's valuation.

Meanwhile, clubs from the Saudi Pro League have also expressed interest in signing the player.
