LAFC Snaps Up Ex-Man City Star to Boost Club World Cup Campaign

LAFC has acquired Javairô Dilrosun on a Designated Player loan from Club América of Liga MX, securing him just before the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup begins.

The arrangement extends until July 24, 2025, with an option for permanent transfer should LAFC wish to retain him for their MLS season. The 26-year-old winger will take Cengiz Ünder's roster position and is cleared to participate in this summer's expanded international tournament with the Black and Gold.

Dilrosun brings valuable experience to Coach Steve Cherundolo's team after his extensive career across European leagues. The attacker developed in Manchester City's academy before playing for Hertha BSC in Germany, Bordeaux in France, and Feyenoord in the Netherlands prior to his 2023 move to Liga MX.

Throughout his career, Dilrosun has tallied 19 goals and provided 33 assists across 199 matches. The forward has also collected five championships, including two Liga MX titles with Club América.

"Javairô is a player we've been monitoring who has demonstrated his abilities in some of the world's premier leagues," stated LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington. "We're thrilled to welcome a player of Javairô's caliber as we prepare for the unique challenge of competing in the Club World Cup."

LAFC's signing comes just two weeks after they defeated Club América 2–1 in a qualifying match for the final position in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Dilrosun entered that match during extra time but couldn't help his former team secure victory.

Despite losing that contest, he now receives another opportunity to participate in the tournament, representing one of three MLS clubs competing for a share of the FIFA Club World Cup's unprecedented $1 billion prize pool. Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami are also aiming to advance deep in the competition and challenge some of Europe's elite clubs, including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

LAFC begins their FIFA Club World Cup journey against Chelsea on Monday, June 16, at BMO Stadium.
