Spurs Launch Legal Battle Against Ratcliffe's INEOS Empire

Tottenham Hotspur have initiated legal action against INEOS, the firm owned by Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, regarding an alleged violation of a sponsorship agreement.
The North London club established a partnership with INEOS in 2022, entering into a five-year agreement that designated INEOS Grenadier as their official 4×4 vehicle partner.
INEOS, which completed a minority acquisition of United three years later, ended their contract with Spurs toward the end of 2024, causing significant displeasure for the London-based club.
Legal documents reveal that Spurs have now submitted a claim to the London Commercial Court as they attempt to contest INEOS's decision to abandon their obligations while their agreement with Spurs still had two years remaining.
"INEOS Automotive has been a partner of Tottenham Hotspur since 2022, taking on a partnership agreement that INEOS Group had in place with the club since 2020," an INEOS representative informed Sky Sports News.

"We possess a contractual right to terminate our partnership contract and in December 2024 we exercised that right."
Since Ratcliffe's acquisition of United, INEOS has terminated numerous sports sponsorship arrangements.
These include deals with Sir Ben Ainslie's sailing team and the New Zealand rugby team, with the latter eventually reaching a settlement with INEOS after initially pursuing legal action over an alleged contract breach.
Executives from the petrochemicals giant have been transparent about the necessity to reduce expenses, previously criticizing what they termed the "deindustrialisation" of Europe, with this philosophy also extending to Ratcliffe's management approach at United.
Ratcliffe has faced criticism for his cost-reduction strategies, which have included several waves of substantial job cuts among non-playing personnel.
