Dortmund Delivers Final Verdict on Sancho's Potential Man Utd Return

Borussia Dortmund's sporting director Sebastian Kehl has dismissed rumors suggesting the club might acquire Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho during this transfer window.

Sancho has returned to Manchester United following an inconsistent loan period at Chelsea, who paid £5 million ($6.8 million) to avoid triggering a mandatory purchase clause worth £25 million ($33.9 million).

The Red Devils are actively seeking permanent suitors for Sancho, eager to remove his substantial salary from their books, and speculation about a Dortmund homecoming has been widespread. Sancho initially gained fame with the German outfit between 2017 and 2021, while his temporary return for the latter half of the 2023-24 season proved quite successful.

In fact, The Athletic reported that Dortmund had initiated contact with Sancho's representatives to express interest in another reunion. Kehl, however, has tempered these expectations.

"Naturally, we maintain some form of communication with Jadon because we share a lengthy history," Kehl explained. "But it's not something we're considering at the moment.

"We have different priorities currently, which is why the Sancho situation has probably received more attention in the media than it has within our organization."

Sancho's destiny might be connected to current Dortmund flanker Jamie Gittens. Chelsea have shown significant interest in recruiting the young English talent and, having failed to complete a transfer before the initial deadline, are expected to persist in their efforts to bring Gittens to Stamford Bridge in the upcoming weeks.

A Dortmund comeback would presumably be attractive to Sancho. Throughout his two stints with the club, he accumulated 158 appearances, scoring 53 goals and providing 67 assists across all competitions—statistics he hasn't been able to match in the Premier League.
