All Wrexham Players Locked In as Club Braces for 2026 Summer Transfer Shake-Up

Wrexham will need to offload players before they can bring in new faces during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Red Dragons achieved their finest-ever league finish, wrapping up the season in seventh place in the EFL Championship — just two points adrift of Hull City in the last playoff position. The Tigers ultimately claimed the playoff title and earned promotion to the Premier League, underscoring just how narrowly Wrexham missed out on a remarkable fourth straight promotion.

Phil Parkinson has already flagged the need to "improve" the squad ahead of the summer, with Wrexham anticipated to pursue several significant additions. The club plans to revamp its wingback options, while reinforcements in central midfield and up front are also priorities.

Wrexham must register a 25-man squad for the upcoming campaign, yet the club already has 33 senior players tied to contracts before any new signings arrive. Consequently, departures will be just as critical as incoming transfers this summer if Wrexham are to assemble a side capable of challenging for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Wrexham will need to be decisive with their squad this summer as they look to construct a side capable of securing promotion. Despite finishing just two points short of the playoff places in their debut Championship season, the Welsh club is expected to face an even tougher challenge next year.

At least one goalkeeper departure looks likely, with all three shot-stoppers entering the final year of their contracts. Wrexham currently lack a definitive No. 1 at Championship level and must determine whether to persist with their existing options or seek an upgrade this summer. League regulations require every club to name a minimum of two goalkeepers within a 25-man squad.

The Red Dragons are well-covered at center back, and there is no urgent need to recruit another central defender. That situation could shift, however, if the club cannot hold on to Callum Doyle after an exceptional season that earned him a spot in the Championship Team of the Season. Conor Coady and Tom O'Connor are set to depart, while Aaron James is expected to head out on loan.

Wrexham are anticipated to bring in at least two wingbacks, with Ryan Barnett and Seb Revan both likely to move on. Questions remain over Liberato Cacace's fitness, while Ryan Longman and George Thomason appear more suited to squad roles than starting positions for a promotion-chasing side.

Parkinson does not necessarily need to move on any of his four central midfielders, but he is expected to bolster the area this summer, with Swansea City's Ethan Galbraith emerging as an early target. Harry Ashfield is already drawing interest ahead of a potential permanent exit, while Elliot Lee could depart either permanently or on loan before his contract runs out next summer.

Wrexham are also expected to be busy in the attacking department. Bailey Cadamarteri could be loaned out to gain more experience, while Paul Mullin, Ryan Hardie and Mo Faal all face uncertain futures at the club. The Red Dragons are expected to pursue another striker to challenge Kieffer Moore and Sam Smith.

Parkinson Anticipates Exits

Speaking earlier this week, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson confirmed that a number of players are likely to exit the club this summer, with new additions also on the way. The summer transfer window opens on Monday, June 15, 2026, and closes at 11 p.m. BST (6 p.m. ET, 3 p.m. PT) on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026.

"We have got a lot of players who have come back from loan clubs, and their agents will obviously be working on other scenarios for a few of them," Parkinson told The Leader.

"I will be liaising closely with those agents as we speak. But things will take time. The playoffs have only just finished, and there's a lot of sorting out to do."

On potential signings, he added: "The recruitment is ongoing. We've sat down and had a good meeting with all the staff and gone through how we feel the squad should look, and we've started firming up a few of the potential targets. We will continue to work on that as we go along."
