Barcelona Dominate Getafe to Edge Closer to La Liga Glory: Player Ratings Revealed

Without Lamine Yamal and at a ground where they hadn't claimed victory since the Lionel Messi era, Barcelona beat Getafe 2–0 on Saturday evening to all but secure the La Liga crown.

It was a scrappy encounter in the Spanish capital where, as anticipated, clear-cut chances were few and far between. However, a sublime delivery from Pedri was enough to finally unlock a resolute Getafe low-block, and Fermín López kept his nerve to slot home what proved to be the decisive goal just before the interval.

The goal completely altered the second-half dynamic, as Getafe were compelled to open up and Barcelona found more room to operate. After squandering several opportunities, Hansi Flick's side finally put the game to bed with a composed finish from Marcus Rashford.

The win allows Barcelona to stretch their advantage at the top of La Liga to 11 points over Real Madrid. With only five matches left, Barcelona could mathematically clinch the Spanish title next weekend depending on results, potentially setting up Los Blancos to give Flick's side a guard of honor in El Clásico on May 10.

The Moment That Defined the Match

Fermín López

Barcelona had found the net just once in their previous five trips to the Estadio Coliseum. Without both Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, the conditions were ripe for yet another frustrating away outing at Getafe... but everything shifted in the dying seconds before half-time.

Pau Cubarsí did brilliantly to regain possession near the middle of the park, and the ball dropped perfectly into Pedri's path. A few strides beyond the halfway line, the midfield maestro picked out Fermín's incisive diagonal run with a 50-yard through-ball. Fermín used his body to hold off his marker and, after taking a touch, calmly slotted home Barça's opener.

It had seemed almost certain that Barcelona would head into the break still searching for their first shot on target. But it took just three touches — Pedri's perfectly weighted pass, Fermín's quality first touch and an even better finish — to break the deadlock.

As expected beforehand, Getafe never truly threatened Joan García's goal. Breaking the deadlock was always going to be the toughest challenge of Saturday's contest, and once Fermín delivered, the Catalans were perfectly placed to claim their first win at the Coliseum in nearly seven years.

Barcelona Player Ratings vs. Getafe (4-2-3-1)

Dani Olmo.

*Ratings provided by FotMob*

GK: Joan García—7.4: Had one nervy moment when he miscontrolled a back-pass that almost handed Getafe a golden opportunity. Nevertheless, he was rarely called upon to make a meaningful save.

RB: Jules Koundé—7.4: Solid enough defensively and kept things simple in possession. However, a reckless challenge earned him a booking and he will sit out the next fixture through suspension.

CB: Pau Cubarsí—8.3: Outstanding from Cubarsí. An immovable presence at the back, his recovery sparked Barça's opener and he produced a crucial clearance in Getafe's most threatening moment of the entire match.

CB: Gerard Martín—7.6: Appeared to pick up a knock at one stage in the first half but pushed through it and delivered another strong display.

LB: João Cancelo—8.0: A persistent attacking threat down the left flank, though his crosses into the box lacked precision. Defensively, he was faultless.

DM: Gavi—7.0: Another dependable performance from Gavi, who has shown no signs of rustiness since returning from an eight-month layoff. He broke up several Getafe attacks with well-timed interceptions and his passing was accurate throughout.

DM: Pedri—8.5: His finest outing in recent weeks. He identified passing lanes that others simply couldn't see, teeing up Fermín's opener with a perfectly weighted through-ball. He arguably could have contributed more, but it was yet another Man of the Match display from Pedri.

RW: Roony Bardghji—6.7: The weight of expectation filling Yamal's role was evident, as he tried to force things too often, lacking sharpness in his touch and clarity in his decision-making.

AM: Dani Olmo—7.3: Began brightly with some neat dribbles and incisive passes, appearing to be the key to unlocking Getafe's defensive shape. His impact faded as the game wore on.

LW: Fermín López—8.1: His high-energy approach helped Barça win the ball back in dangerous areas, and after a lively and industrious start, he was rewarded by Pedri with a perfectly timed pass that he converted into the game's opening goal.

ST: Robert Lewandowski—7.7: Apart from a header in the early stages, Lewandowski was starved of service throughout. Even so, he registered his first assist of the season when he released Rashford for Barça's second.

SUB: Ronald Araújo (60' for Koundé)—6.5: Performed his duties competently after coming on, though he was rarely put under any real pressure.

SUB: Frenkie de Jong (60' for Gavi)—6.7: Helped Barcelona maintain possession and manage the game to its conclusion.

SUB: Marcus Rashford (60' for Bardghji)—7.3: His most impactful cameo in recent weeks. Lively from the moment he entered the pitch and dispatched his chance with ease to seal the victory.

SUB: Alejandro Balde (82' for López)—N/A

SUB: Marc Casadó (88' for Pedri)—N/A:

Subs not used: Eder Aller (GK), Wojciech Szczęsny (GK), Álvaro Cortés, Tomás Marques, Xavi Espart, Ferran Torres.
