Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham has secured a player he has long "admired," as the club confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfield star Casemiro on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old arrives at the Herons on a free transfer following the expiration of his Manchester United contract at the end of the 2025–26 Premier League season. Casemiro has signed on through the 14-game 2027 MLS Sprint Season, with an option to extend until June 2029.
"I'm incredibly proud to welcome Casemiro and his family to Inter Miami," Beckham said. "He is someone I have admired both as a person and as a player for a very long time. He is a true winner who has accomplished so much in football, and after such a remarkable career at Real Madrid and Manchester United, I'm thrilled that he has chosen Miami as his next destination."
Casemiro's new contract follows his participation in his third World Cup with Brazil, where he featured in five matches before the team was eliminated in the round of 16 by Erling Haaland's Norway. At the international level, he has scored 10 goals across 91 appearances.

Arriving as a defensive midfielder, the seasoned veteran brings a wealth of experience from 336 matches with La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid, where he contributed 31 goals and 29 assists, helping the club win five Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns, and three FIFA Club World Cups, among numerous other honors.
After concluding his time at Real Madrid in 2022, he moved to Premier League club Manchester United, where he registered 24 goals and 16 assists across 160 outings, claiming the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, while also helping the club secure a return to the Champions League in his final campaign.
"What drives me most — and I believe this applies to every player — is winning and continuing to improve," Casemiro said. "The project the club laid out for me, combined with the dedication everyone showed in bringing me here, means a great deal."
The club obtained Casemiro's Discovery Rights from the L.A. Galaxy, but, according to The Athletic, is under investigation for potential tampering, as clubs are prohibited from negotiating with players on other teams' Discovery Lists prior to acquiring those rights.
Miami's salary structure also remains uncertain, as the club previously had Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and Germán Berterame occupying all three available Designated Player slots and has yet to disclose Casemiro's contractual status.
Casemiro Fills Sergio Busquets Void
Casemiro is set to slot naturally into Inter Miami's defensive midfield, filling the gap left by the recently retired Sergio Busquets, who was instrumental in the Herons' MLS Cup triumph in 2025 and their record-setting Supporters' Shield campaign in 2024. It seems only fitting that the Brazilian will also wear the number five shirt.
This season, the Herons have shown inconsistency in their lineup selections, but have largely transitioned to a 4-3-3 since Guillermo Hoyos stepped in as interim manager following the club's split with MLS Cup-winning head coach Javier Mascherano earlier in the season.

Within the 4-3-3 setup, Rodrigo De Paul has been deployed on the right flank rather than the central position he occupied alongside Busquets last season, while Yannick Bright has contributed in midfield. Miami will now have the flexibility to either maintain that formation and insert Casemiro in place of Bright, or transition to a double-pivot defensive midfield pairing featuring Casemiro and De Paul.
The club has yet to announce a debut date for Casemiro, though he is expected to link up with the squad before Messi and De Paul return, given Brazil's earlier World Cup exit.
