Bruno Fernandes Matches Cristiano Ronaldo's Legendary Man Utd Record in Stunning Fashion

Bruno Fernandes has matched Cristiano Ronaldo's milestone of 140 goal involvements in the Premier League following his most recent assist for Manchester United in their clash against Brentford.

Fernandes is closing in on the division's single-season assist record, shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne at 20, and appears set to surpass it after bringing his tally to 19 during United's 2–1 victory over the Bees on Monday.

In terms of all-time figures, that was Fernandes's 70th Premier League assist alongside 70 goals in the competition since his arrival at Old Trafford in January 2020. He has now matched Ronaldo's total goal contributions, a mark the Portuguese legend required more appearances to achieve.

To put it in perspective, Ronaldo — who was just 18 upon his arrival — required 233 appearances to register his 140th Premier League goal involvement, seven more outings than Fernandes needed to reach the same landmark.

While Ronaldo's goal-scoring prowess is undeniable, Fernandes's creativity has been a cornerstone of United's play throughout his six-year spell at the club, cementing his status as one of the finest midfielders on the planet.

His next goal involvement will see Fernandes surpass his international compatriot. Should it come as an assist, it would also draw the 31-year-old level with Henry and De Bruyne's assist record — with yet another creative milestone then within reach.

Fernandes Eyeing European Assist Record

The Premier League's single-season assist record stands at 20, but the benchmark across Europe's top five leagues stretches a touch higher.

Only on two occasions in recorded history has any player across the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, and the Bundesliga surpassed 20 assists in a single season. Remarkably, both instances occurred in the 2019–20 campaign.

Lionel Messi and Thomas Müller each finished that season with 21 league assists for Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively, giving Fernandes an additional target to chase down.

United have four Premier League fixtures remaining this season. One more assist from Fernandes would tie the league's single-season record, while two would place him alongside Messi and Müller at the summit of the European rankings.

Liverpool, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, and Brighton & Hove Albion are the four sides standing between Fernandes and his place in the history books.

Based on his current form, Fernandes looks well-placed to break both records. He has registered at least one assist in six of his last seven Premier League outings and has gone without an assist in just four league matches in 2026 — with Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Everton, and Bournemouth the sides that managed to keep him quiet.
