The entire football world is anxiously awaiting news after reports suggest a hamstring injury could sideline Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal for the 2026 World Cup.
Yamal was substituted off after netting the only goal in Barcelona's 1–0 victory against Celta Vigo on Wednesday evening. The young star converted the penalty he had won, but immediately gestured to the bench that something was amiss and dropped to the ground without celebrating. He was forced to carefully limp off the field before the break.
Shortly after the final whistle, ESPN's Gemma Soler sounded the alarm with a worrying assessment of Yamal's condition.
"It's not confirmed yet, but we were able to ask around and it appears to be a hamstring tear," Soler reported from Camp Nou. "He will undergo further examinations tomorrow. If the tear is minor, we could be looking at three to four weeks. If it's more significant, we might be talking about [Yamal] missing the remainder of the season and potentially struggling to be available at the start of the World Cup."
Barcelona Could Be Without Yamal for the Rest of 2025–26

Yamal is set to undergo additional medical assessments in the coming hours that will clarify the extent of the injury and how long he may be sidelined.
Nevertheless, ESPN and Mundo Deportivo have already indicated that Yamal missing Barcelona's final six matches of the season is a very real possibility.
Barcelona currently lead Real Madrid by nine points in the La Liga standings with just 18 points remaining. It would require a remarkable collapse for the Blaugrana to miss out on back-to-back league titles, though the challenge could grow considerably harder without their standout performer.
Even if Yamal's injury proves less severe than initially feared, it seems highly unlikely he will be fit in time for the season's final El Clásico when Real Madrid travel to Camp Nou on May 10.
But with La Liga virtually secured, being ready for the 2026 World Cup will almost certainly take precedence in his recovery plan.
Flick, Gavi React Share Insight on Yamal Injury

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick met Yamal as he hobbled toward the tunnel after leaving the pitch, sharing a brief exchange before embracing him. Following the game, the German manager provided an update on Yamal's condition.
"We'll have to wait until tomorrow," Flick stated. "We need to find out what exactly it is. I believe it's something, because he felt it — and after scoring a goal, he wouldn't have walked off without good reason. It's obviously a shame that Lamine has picked up an injury now."
Gavi also spoke openly about Yamal's injury after the final whistle, emphasizing how significant his absence would be and offering a glimpse into how his teammate and close friend was coping when he saw him in the locker room.
"For me, Lamine is the best," Gavi said. "Obviously, it's a terrible situation for us, because he's such a vital player. He was really devastated in the dressing room because he understands just how important he is to this team.
"I don't know how long the recovery will take, but I hope it's as quick as possible."
Barcelona will be monitoring Thursday's test results closely, while Spain national team manager Luis de la Fuente will equally be hoping for encouraging news. Yamal had been a certainty to make his World Cup debut this summer with one of the tournament's top contenders.
He now faces a race against time to recover and be ready for Spain's tournament opener against Cape Verde in just 54 days.
