Carlo Ancelotti has boldly cut a number of seasoned veterans from his Brazil squad ahead of the September international break, signaling a clear shift toward the nation's emerging talents.
Following the team's early World Cup elimination at the hands of Norway, the experienced Italian coach had pledged a significant squad shake-up, and he made good on that promise with a 26-man selection for upcoming friendlies against Australia and India.
Some of the most striking absences have come in goal, with both Alisson and Ederson left out of the picture. In their place, a completely fresh trio of shot-stoppers has been named, with Hugo Souza, Otávio and Pedro Morisco combining for just a single senior international appearance.
Ancelotti was keen to reassure supporters about Alisson's long-term standing, however. "We know Alisson very well, and when the competitions—like the Copa América—come, if he remains being the best goalkeeper in Brazil, Alisson will play. Right now, however, we have to prioritize the younger ones."
In the middle of the park, Casemiro, Fabinho and Lucas Paquetá were all dropped, while Neymar was left out following his retirement from international football. Up front, Matheus Cunha, Gabriel Jesus, Igor Thiago and Gabriel Martinelli were also omitted.
Ancelotti still included a number of well-known faces to help guide the team through this transitional period. Vinícius Júnior, Raphinha, Bruno Guimarães, Gabriel and Marquinhos all made the cut, while João Pedro earned a recall after being surprisingly overlooked at the World Cup—his club performances made him impossible to ignore.

Why Has Ancelotti Named Such a Young Roster?
Ancelotti's sweeping removal of established names sets the stage for a youthful overhaul, with 11 of his selected players aged under 23. Eight of them have yet to earn a senior cap, among them Nottingham Forest's Jair Cunha and Manchester City's Vitor Reis. In total, 10 of the squad still ply their trade at Brazilian club level.
Only Douglas Santos and Marquinhos are aged over 30, and just the latter alongside Vinícius Jr. have accumulated more than 50 caps for the Seleção.
Ancelotti has maintained that change was essential following a deflating World Cup campaign, and believes a "new cycle" will put Brazil in the best position to challenge for major honours in the years ahead.
"The World Cup was a disappointment for us and for me personally," said Ancelotti after announcing his squad. "We weren't able to play the way we expected. Being eliminated by Norway was a huge letdown because the team had actually played well up until the 60th minute of that match.
"We struggled in the first half, but the team improved after that. The defeat to Norway came as a surprise in that sense, because no one expected it to happen.
"At a club, you have the chance to process things and move on relatively quickly because there's another competition coming up—with the national team, it's more complicated. The pain of the defeat lingers much longer. Now, however, we are motivated by the fact that we have time to prepare for a new cycle and get ready for the upcoming competitions."
Ancelotti added: "I chose these players—Marquinhos, Gabriel, Bruno [Guimarães], Raphinha and Viní Jr.—to help with this change in direction. They are crucial for the future.
"We are confident in their commitment to quality, seriousness and professionalism, and they will help the younger players improve. That doesn't mean other players won't be involved. We prioritized younger players for these friendlies to gather more precise information on everyone. It is possible that, by the time we reach the competitions, players not on this list today could be on the final squad."
