Bukayo Saka's Road to Recovery: When Arsenal's Star Could Make His Triumphant Return

Arsenal were left without their most important player in Wednesday's Champions League showdown against Bayern Munich.

Star winger Bukayo Saka went down within the first 10 minutes of the league phase fixture at the Allianz Arena, grabbing his leg in agony after striking a lofted pass across the field. Saka required help from the medical staff to get back on his feet before limping off down the tunnel. He was substituted by Eberechi Eze with the score still level at zero.

Losing Saka is a significant setback for the Gunners, who are pursuing glory on the European stage this campaign. Saka played a pivotal role in the club's journey to the 2025–26 Champions League final, contributing five goal involvements in eight starts, including the decisive goal in the second leg of the semifinal against Atlético Madrid.

Just the previous week against Lille, he contributed a goal and an assist from the bench in Arsenal's 3–0 victory, extending their league phase winning streak to 14 consecutive matches under Mikel Arteta.

What Injury Does Bukayo Saka Have?

After breaking free on a dribble past Bayern's Alphonso Davies, Saka attempted a long sweeping pass across the pitch, executing a scooping motion that appears to have immediately strained a muscle in his left leg.

He was subsequently seen clutching his quadricep while on the ground, suggesting an injury to the front of his thigh. He was also spotted tapping his left quad during a conversation with Arteta on the touchline.

Saka has no prior history of a serious quad injury; however, he did battle a persistent hamstring problem last season and throughout the 2024–25 campaign, which caused him to miss a combined 26 matches across all competitions during that period.

When Will Bukayo Saka Return to Arsenal?

The exact duration of Saka's absence remains unclear; however, being forced off a major European fixture within the first 10 minutes is far from encouraging.

Arteta will be hoping Saka is fit and ready for the weekend, when Arsenal welcome Everton to the Emirates, though that may prove overly optimistic. The Gunners will undoubtedly need their talisman for the following week's Premier League encounter with Liverpool.
