A host of clubs are expected to enter the Anthony Gordon sweepstake this summer, with Chelsea reportedly the latest side to join the pursuit of the England winger.
Newcastle United appear to be heading toward a period of stagnation under Eddie Howe, having allowed star striker Alexander Isak to depart late in last summer's transfer window. Despite various attempts at justification, Newcastle's efforts to find a suitable replacement for Isak have largely fallen flat.
Indeed, there is already speculation that Yoane Wissa could exit the club, barely a year after his £55 million ($74.4 million) arrival.
If Newcastle are to reshape their squad ahead of the 2026–27 campaign, they will look to sell early in order to give themselves ample time to secure the right additions. Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães are two other prized assets the Tyneside club could offload, but Gordon currently appears the most likely to depart—with a long list of clubs already eyeing his signature.
Chelsea Join Hugely Competitive Race for Gordon's Signature

Newcastle acquired Gordon for £40 million ($54 million) from Everton in 2023, and are said to be confident of turning a substantial profit should they reach an agreement with one of the attacker's numerous admirers this summer.
The Magpies, currently sitting 14th in the Premier League standings, are reportedly prepared to demand up to £75 million ($101 million) for their top scorer.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have all been linked with a potential move, and now The Athletic have added Chelsea to the equation. The Blues' transfer approach has drawn considerable criticism from their fanbase, and co-owner Behdad Eghbali recently hinted that a shift in strategy is forthcoming.
Bringing in Gordon for a significant fee would certainly align with Eghbali's assertion that Chelsea are ready to pursue more "ready-made" talent rather than unproven youngsters. The Blues have assembled a underwhelming group of wide players and are in particular need of reinforcement on the left flank, though a move for Gordon is reportedly contingent on securing Champions League qualification.
At present, that outcome looks unlikely, even though a sixth-place Premier League finish could be sufficient for qualification should Aston Villa go on to win the Europa League.
Why Is Gordon So in Demand?

Many raised eyebrows when Newcastle paid as much as they did for Gordon three years ago, and there has been no shortage of surprise at just how sought-after the England international has become heading into the summer transfer window.
After registering 21 Premier League goal contributions in his first full season at St James' Park, Gordon's output in domestic competition has gradually tapered off. Nevertheless, the dynamic forward netted 10 times in the Champions League this season, emerging as one of the tournament's leading scorers before Newcastle's round of 16 elimination.
He can undoubtedly be inconsistent in front of goal, with much of his clinical edge this calendar year reserved for a 45-minute spell in Baku. Even so, clubs value Gordon's tireless pressing across all phases of play, his ability to run in behind defensive lines, and his considerable output without the ball.
While opinions on Gordon remain divided, England boss Thomas Tuchel has previously been vocal in his admiration: "He [Gordon] is a direct player, I think this is his biggest strength, to go direct and go again and again," the German remarked last October (via FanSided).
"To have this repetition in his intensity. He just collects high intensity runs, he collects meters in sprints and this is so, so good."
Gordon will most likely battle Barcelona's Marcus Rashford for a starting berth at the 2026 World Cup, with a potentially career-defining summer ahead of him.
