Eight Clubs Ready to Snap Up Jadon Sancho Following His Man Utd Departure

Jadon Sancho is reportedly "open" to returning to Borussia Dortmund for a third stint, once his Manchester United deal expires this coming summer.

Sancho, who signed a four-year contract with United from Dortmund back in 2021, is currently on a loan spell at Aston Villa. A return to Old Trafford appears highly unlikely, as the prospect of him becoming a free agent at the end of June grows ever more real.

The ex-England winger attracted interest from Dortmund last summer, but was ultimately deemed too costly for the German side. He ended up at Aston Villa after spending the 2024–25 campaign on loan at Chelsea, though he has largely featured as a squad player this term.

Dortmund remains the only club where Sancho has genuinely flourished—he enjoyed a breakthrough period there between the ages of 17 and 21, and later impressed during a short loan stint as the club made a surprise run to the Champions League final in 2024.

Sky Sport Germany reports that Sancho has "expressed his willingness" to play for Dortmund once again. With his free agent status imminent, the transfer process is set to be far more straightforward than it might otherwise have been, provided a contract can be reached.

Discussions have already taken place in which "specific financial terms" were addressed, with Sancho also making clear that Dortmund is his preferred destination over a "multitude" of other potential suitors.

Jadon Sancho

At the peak of his powers during his first Dortmund spell from 2017–21, Sancho was a prolific contributor in both goals and assists from wide positions. Once heralded as the most thrilling young talent in world football, his United career began disastrously after he was hospitalised with an ear infection. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who had pursued him since 2019, was dismissed shortly after, and Sancho's relationship with eventual permanent successor Erik ten Hag broke down spectacularly.

Even so, the south London-born winger is still only 26 and has time to turn things around. Nevertheless, he is in urgent need of a fresh start following several deeply frustrating seasons.

Clubs Jadon Sancho Could Join

Jadon Sancho

Borussia Dortmund stands out as the natural fit, given Sancho's long-standing ties to the club spanning nearly a decade and his reported preference for a return above all other options.

The same Sky Germany report indicates that head coach Niko Kovač is already supportive of the move, though the final call will rest with managing director Lars Ricken and sporting director Ole Book as to whether bringing Sancho back a third time is the right decision.

Remaining at Aston Villa is also a possibility. Manager Unai Emery spoke encouragingly about the prospect when asked at a press conference in February. However, any permanent arrangement will depend on Sancho agreeing to terms and an evaluation of how well he has adapted to Villa's setup.

"Hopefully he can help us by improving his qualities within our structure, as he is doing," Emery said at the time. "He will need a new contract, and perhaps it could be here. If he produces his best football, we will want him. But other clubs may well be competing for his signature too."

Jadon Sancho

Turkey is frequently a landing spot for players who have struggled to cement themselves in Europe's top five leagues, placing Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe among the potential options. That said, Turkish football can be unforgiving for foreign arrivals and did little to revive the careers of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Dele Alli.

Napoli, who were linked with Sancho last summer, transformed Scott McTominay into something of a standout performer and have made a habit of targeting players departing Premier League clubs in recent years. AC Milan carries a similar appeal, with Fikayo Tomori serving as a notable example of that approach paying off.

An unexpected and high-risk option would be a sentimental return to Watford. Sancho joined their academy at the age of seven, was later accommodated by the club to ease a difficult commute across London, and stayed until Manchester City came calling when he was 14. The Hornets have been absent from the Premier League since 2022, making it a bold move. It would certainly not be a financially motivated decision, and the EFL Championship is a notoriously demanding league.

A comparable scenario could involve Tottenham Hotspur, should they face relegation. There is a general belief that Spurs, much like Newcastle United during their two Premier League absences this century, would return swiftly. While Watford would offer less financial reward, a move to Spurs would be driven primarily by sporting ambition on Sancho's part.

The idea of Sancho landing at an elite club such as Real Madrid, Liverpool or Barcelona—despite all three having needs out wide—appears far-fetched at this stage.
