Arsenal have finalized the transfer of Aston Villa and England center back Ezri Konsa, with the fee thought to be around £51 million ($69.4 million).
The 28-year-old, who will don the No. 15 shirt at Emirates Stadium, was instrumental in Villa's achievements over recent seasons, helping the club qualify for the Champions League and then clinching last season's Europa League title. Konsa's impressive displays have also caught the eye at international level, with Thomas Tuchel establishing him as a central figure in England's 2026 World Cup campaign.
As part of their ambition to tighten their hold on the Premier League title and remain competitive across all competitions, Arsenal pinpointed Konsa as a key defensive addition. With William Saliba and Jürrien Timber sidelined through injury, the Englishman offers reliable cover at both center back and right back—a role Konsa fulfilled against Norway in the World Cup quarterfinals.
"I'm absolutely thrilled. It's an honor to be here and I can't wait to hit the ground running," Konsa told club media following the signing of a long-term deal. "I want to keep winning, I'm driven to succeed and that's exactly why I'm here. It's a proud moment for me and my family to represent one of the greatest clubs in the world."
Konsa Excited About Joining Arsenal's Defensive Unit

Arsenal's defensive strength has been built on the players who line up in front of goalkeeper David Raya. Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães are broadly considered the finest center back partnership in world football, while Cristhian Mosquera offers solid backup on the right side.
Add the adaptable Timber, Ben White, Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié to the equation, and Arsenal now boast eight players capable of operating in central defense—not even counting Declan Rice, who has previously filled that role for both West Ham United and England.
"The connection they share, the way they all defend for one another, the passion they have for defending, they love keeping the ball out of the net which is what you need as a defender," Konsa said of his new colleagues.
"But I just love the way they are together. What they've built over the last few years has been something special."
"I enjoy building from the back and I like having the ball at my feet. That's Mikel's philosophy and from what I've watched in matches, it's the same approach the defenders here take. So hopefully I can contribute a little something extra," he added, reflecting on his own style of play.
"It's great being versatile. I can handle both roles, right back and center back, but ultimately, wherever the manager decides to play me, I'll always give everything and do my best."
What Arsenal Said About Signing Konsa

Andrea Berta, Sporting Director: "We're thrilled to have completed the signing of Ezri Konsa.
"Ezri is a high-caliber defender whose athleticism, composure and tactical awareness have made him one of the Premier League's most dependable performers. Comfortable in both central defense and at right-back, Ezri will bring important versatility to our squad while upholding the defensive standards that are central to our pursuit of major honors.
"We are welcoming a player with extensive Premier League and international experience, along with strong leadership qualities, who will slot seamlessly into our style of play. Equally important, we are welcoming someone with the character and mindset to make an immediate impression at this club.
"We welcome Ezri and his family to Arsenal."

Rio Ferdinand, former Manchester United and England defender: "I think this is an outstanding signing. A player in his prime who knows exactly who he is and what he brings. There's no nonsense about him. He's a solid, really, really, really good Premier League defender."
Dean Smith, former Aston Villa boss and current Charlotte FC manager: "I signed him twice, first from Charlton for Brentford and then for Villa from Brentford. He's like a Rolls-Royce, I love the way he plays.
"He's actually one of the most fouled center backs I've ever come across. He wins free kicks like no other center back can. But yeah, he's improved enormously and, you know, people started comparing him to Paul McGrath at Villa and Paul McGrath is known as God."
