Federico Chiesa's Next Club Revealed: Five Top Destinations Ranked After Transfer Bombshell

Federico Chiesa has signaled his willingness to exit Liverpool this summer, revealing that consistent playing time is his primary concern in a remarkably frank assessment of his situation.

The Italian attacker was brought in during Arne Slot's debut summer at the helm and, despite being part of a Premier League title-winning side at Anfield, Chiesa has seen limited action across two seasons.

The wide man has accumulated 50 appearances for Liverpool with 10 goal contributions, yet has started on just nine occasions over two campaigns. Unsurprisingly, Chiesa is eager for more game time.

"I want to play and if I can't find consistency in the Premier League, I'll have to look for it somewhere else," the 28-year-old told Gazzetta dello Sport. "This past season, I barely got any minutes. I'll head to the U.S. for preseason, then sit down with the club and Iraola and see what happens."

He continued: "Honestly, I haven't featured much since the beginning of 2026. I have a strong bond with Liverpool. Back in January, the club and Slot told me I couldn't leave. They needed me. It was a numbers issue. We were going through a rough patch.

"I understood the circumstances and stayed, keeping a positive attitude. This is still Liverpool we're talking about. Last year they helped me win the Premier League."

While Iraola's appointment offers Chiesa a glimmer of hope amid his uncertain Liverpool future, the general expectation remains that the former Juventus and Fiorentina man will move on this summer—most likely heading back to Italy.

Five Possible Destinations for Federico Chiesa—Ranked

5. Napoli

Scott McTominay, Rasmus Højlund playing for Napoli.

A return to Serie A looks almost inevitable should Chiesa depart Liverpool, and clubs throughout Italy will have their appetites whetted by his availability at a modest fee this summer.

2024–25 Italian champions Napoli could be among the interested parties, particularly given their track record of snapping up cast-off Premier League talent in recent transfer windows. Scott McTominay, Rasmus Højlund and Romelu Lukaku serve as prime examples.

However, with Antonio Conte having departed Naples and no replacement yet appointed, the Partenopei will be reluctant to make bold market moves until stability is restored.

Recently dismissed Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has been touted as Conte's potential successor, which would likely derail any pursuit of Chiesa given the Liverpool winger's well-documented falling out with Allegri during their shared time at Juventus.

4. Roma

Donyell Malen celebrates for Roma

After a seven-year absence from Europe's elite club competition, Roma have booked their spot in the 2026–27 Champions League. The capital club didn't have a perfect campaign under Gian Piero Gasperini, but a strong finish to the season propelled them into the top four.

The Giallorossi must now begin planning for their Champions League return, with strengthening a relatively thin squad in the transfer market their top priority.

Roma have previously been linked with Chiesa during his time on Merseyside and could rekindle that interest, though Gasperini's 3-4-2-1 formation doesn't obviously suit the Italian wide forward.

The eye-catching impact of Donyell Malen since his arrival last winter—netting 15 goals in 20 appearances for Roma—demonstrates how underperforming Premier League players can rediscover their best form in Italy.

3. Milan

Rafael Leão

Milan's catastrophic late-season collapse in the 2025–26 Serie A campaign cost Allegri his position and also played a role in Rafael Leão's decision to bring his seven-year chapter at San Siro to a close. Following the Rossoneri's failure to secure Champions League football, the Portuguese star confirmed his wish to move on.

Liverpool could even be among the clubs eyeing Leão, who possesses tremendous ability despite his inconsistent showings last term. Could Chiesa potentially feature in a swap deal?

While far from straightforward, it's not out of the question that Chiesa ends up at Milan. The club will need to find a replacement for Leão, but the absence of Champions League football limits their pulling power in the market.

Milan are still searching for Allegri's replacement, however, meaning any transfer activity will be on hold for now.

2. Como

Cesc Fàbregas

While Milan stumbled short of Champions League qualification last season, rising force Como made it through.

The club's extraordinary rise under Cesc Fàbregas hit new heights last term, and the talented Spaniard will be keen to bring in greater depth, quality and, crucially, experience ahead of their European campaign.

Chiesa could tick all those boxes and would also add another Italian player to a squad that urgently needs homegrown talent to meet Champions League eligibility requirements next season.

Como certainly have the financial firepower following substantial investment in recent years, with Chiesa's transfer fee and salary unlikely to pose any obstacle.

1. Juventus

Federico Chiesa at Juventus

When asked about a potential return to Juventus in his recent Gazzetta dello Sport interview, Chiesa made clear he would welcome a homecoming in Turin.

"Juventus will always hold a special place in my heart, and I'd love to go back," said the Liverpool winger, who made 131 appearances for the Italian club over four seasons. With Allegri now gone and replaced by Luciano Spalletti—a known admirer of Chiesa—a reunion looks increasingly plausible.

During his tenure as Italy's national team manager, Spalletti frequently sang Chiesa's praises, even labeling him "world class" and a player "who knows how to make the difference."

A return to the Allianz Stadium appears to make sense for everyone involved, with Chiesa unlikely to be overly deterred by Juve's absence from next season's Champions League.
