Alf-Inge Haaland, father of Manchester City star Erling, has stressed that the striker remains entirely focused on football despite the turmoil surrounding the club's ongoing legal dispute with the Premier League.
With City potentially facing severe penalties after being found guilty on the majority of 115 financial charges leveled against them, Haaland has been widely speculated to depart should the club face relegation, drawing parallels to Juventus' demotion from Serie A in 2006 following the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal.
"Well, Juventus involved match-fixing and several other matters," Alf-Inge told Viaplay, arguing the two situations are incomparable. "I think we should wait for the appeal process to play out. It could move fast, even though there are rival fans, clubs and, above all, journalists who seem to have it in for City right now.
"So we'll just have to see what the appeal ruling brings. City believe they have solid evidence to stand their ground and demonstrate their innocence, so I think we wait until that conclusion is reached."
Amid all the off-pitch turbulence, Alf-Inge maintained that his son is doing everything he can to block out the distractions and stay focused on the game.
"Erling thinks about playing as much football as possible and keeps his attention on that," Haaland Sr said. "I think it's more those of us away from the pitch who dwell on it a bit more."
Alf-Inge Refuses to Deny Relegation Release Clause

While Haaland is officially represented by agent Rafaela Pimenta, his father holds a meaningful role in discussions regarding the striker's future, which remains more uncertain than ever following City's guilty verdict.
Long-standing suitors Barcelona and Real Madrid have both been strongly linked with a move for Haaland should he opt to seek a transfer, while domestic rivals Arsenal are reportedly poised to enter the running if a genuine opening arises.
There have also been reports suggesting Haaland's deal may contain a release clause tailored specifically for this worst-case scenario, though Alf-Inge declined to shed any light on the matter.
"I can't comment on player contracts or Erling's contract," he emphasized. "I can't comment on that."
Instead, Alf-Inge made clear that both he and Erling are in the same position as everyone else — simply waiting on the outcome of City's appeal, having received no additional information from the club.
"Nothing beyond what's in the media," he revealed. "And there is an enormous amount written there, and very one-sided, I would say, right?
"Because it's difficult for Manchester City to come out right now, with an ongoing appeal, and defend themselves.
"So we hope they receive a fair hearing, and then we'll see if they manage to prove their innocence, in the end."
