Jude Bellingham Roars Back With Powerful Statement After Surpassing Zinedine Zidane's Legendary Feat

Jude Bellingham reached the milestone of 50 Real Madrid goals with his strike in Sunday's commanding 3–0 victory over Racing Santander, surpassing the club tally of the iconic Zinedine Zidane.

Bellingham came close to opening his account early in the match with a close-range header that was denied by Julen Agirrezabala. Nevertheless, he reached his half-century on 21 minutes, driving forward from midfield and going around the goalkeeper to slot into an empty net, making it two for Madrid after Kylian Mbappé's earlier spot kick.

The victory, sealed by Yan Diomande's first-half effort, represents Madrid's sixth consecutive win as they continue to apply pressure on Barcelona at the summit of La Liga.

Reflecting on his personal milestone after the final whistle, Bellingham said: "Reaching 50 goals with Real Madrid is very special. Not just for me and my dreams, but also for the team. It's very important that all the players score goals and make a difference in matches. Sometimes it will be Mbappé, Vini Jr., Arda Güler or me, but the important thing is that everyone helps the team. That's the most important thing."

Bellingham Better Than Zidane?

Zinedine Zidane

Appropriately, Bellingham's goal places him among the top 50 all-time scorers at Madrid—making him the first Englishman to reach a half-century at the club—and he is now within striking distance of former stars Isco (53) and Luís Figo (58).

One notable name Bellingham has already overtaken is Zidane—the Ballon d'Or-winning playmaker who donned the same No. 5 jersey across five seasons from 2001 to 2006.

Beyond sharing a shirt number, Bellingham's role and effortless elegance on the ball have frequently invited comparisons with his Madrid forerunner. Both players are a video editor's delight—full of weaving, deceptive brilliance. Yet it is evident that the two differ considerably in their playing styles.

While any comparison to Zidane is a significant compliment, Bellingham's latest landmark shows he poses a greater goal threat.

The French legend, acquired during the original galáctico era, netted 49 times in 230 appearances across all competitions for Los Blancos, yielding a goals-per-game ratio of 0.22. In contrast, Bellingham has needed just 154 matches to reach his half-century (0.32 goals per game).

Zidane, who frequently played in a deeper position, never exceeded 12 goals in a single season at any club. Bellingham, meanwhile, struck 23 in his debut campaign at the Bernabéu while largely functioning as a secondary striker.

Zidane did, however, possess a talent for delivering in the biggest moments and is celebrated for his goals in two World Cup finals with France and his breathtaking overhead volley in the 2001 Champions League final.

A natural creator, Zidane—who arrived at Real Madrid aged 29—departed the club with 58 assists (0.25 per game). This comfortably eclipses Bellingham's current return of 21 (0.14 per game).

Nevertheless, as a defining figure of the pre-Messi and Ronaldo era, reducing Zidane's contributions to statistics alone fails to capture the essence of what made him so revered.

In 2014, the playmaker was inducted into Madrid's hall of fame, while L'Equipe named him the greatest French player of all time four years later. Sports Illustrated's own rankings place him as Real Madrid's fourth-greatest player in history.

Bellingham has youth on his side, but it will be a remarkable career if he is regarded in comparable terms by the time it concludes—regardless of his final goal tally.
