FIFA president Gianni Infantino delivered a strange quip to a bald journalist who directly challenged him on why he won't step down, saying: "I'll see you at the hairdressers."
Infantino is under mounting pressure to vacate his role as head of soccer's global governing body. This comes in the wake of a collapsed effort to launch the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), a scheme designed to sell shares in future World Cup competitions to private investors.
There is also ongoing controversy surrounding the decision to lift a red-card suspension that USMNT forward Folarin Balogun was set to serve during the 2026 World Cup, a move widely believed to have resulted from political pressure applied by U.S. President Donald Trump.
UEFA, the AFC, and Concacaf are all united in their opposition to Infantino and collectively hold sufficient voting power to remove him through a vote of no confidence. Reports suggest the former UEFA official has been given the chance to resign voluntarily rather than be pushed out. Yet Infantino continues to act as though no crisis exists.
Infantino Clinging to FIFA Presidency

Infantino arrived in the Dominican Republic on Friday, having originally been invited to the Caribbean Football Union under-14s tournament by Concacaf before the FFE controversy turned the confederation against him. Concacaf president Victor Montagliani sent him a letter urging him to "reconsider your attendance as it will undermine" the event.
Infantino was tracked down in the Caribbean nation by Sky News journalist James Matthews, who reportedly posed as a supporter seeking a photo in order to catch the president off guard before revealing himself as a reporter and launching into a series of pointed questions.
Matthews asked twice, "Have you betrayed the game of [soccer]?" before bluntly pressing further with "Why won't you resign?"

Receiving no response as Infantino made his way into a waiting vehicle, Matthews continued: "Fans, FIFA [member] associations want you to step down, why won't you? Have you betrayed the trust of FIFA, sir?"
The moment Infantino grasped what was unfolding, the hairless president cracked a joke: "You have a nice haircut." He repeatedly muttered "thank you very much" as he approached the car. Then, just as security staff moved to shut the door, Infantino turned back toward Matthews and delivered one final hair-related remark: "I'll see you at the hairdressers."
Despite enjoying the public support of Trump, it appears increasingly inevitable that Infantino will eventually be stripped of the FIFA presidency.
