Jeff Bezos's Influence on Liverpool's Transfer Strategy Starts to Take Shape

Alexis Mac Allister has hinted that upcoming contract extension talks could be influenced by the recent investment in Liverpool made by Jeff Bezos's consortium.

Last August, the Amazon founder was part of a group known as 1892 Holdings, which acquired a 38% stake in the club, representing the billionaire's first foray into sports ownership.

Unsurprisingly, many have begun speculating about increased spending on Merseyside as a result, whether through improved club infrastructure, high-profile new signings, or potentially higher wages for current players.

Mac Allister is among those who could be in line for a pay increase in the near future. Although Liverpool had previously informed the midfielder they would not be renewing his deal, which runs until 2028, his strong return to form under Andoni Iraola could prompt a change of heart.

The 27-year-old has cited his new head coach, changes in the backroom staff, and fresh outside investment as possible factors that could shape future contract extension discussions.

"Now, the manager has changed, the sporting director has changed, and new investors are coming into the club," Mac Allister told journalist Gaston Edul. "Today I'm in a position when anything can happen. I enjoy being here a lot."

Should Liverpool Extend Mac Allister's Contract?

Given the Argentine international's striking resurgence after a disappointing 2025–26 campaign, Liverpool would be unwise to entirely dismiss the prospect of extending Mac Allister's contract.

"I know I still have time left at the club, which is what I want the most," he added. "I don't judge the decision they made, I just take my emotions and we move forward. Everything can change before I become a free agent."

His improved performances, combined with the appointment of new sporting director Julian Ward — who played a key role in bringing Mac Allister to the club from Brighton & Hove Albion — appear to bode well for the combative midfielder as he awaits contract talks.

The Athletic have reported that "the door isn't closed regarding a new contract," though the same outlet notes that "Liverpool won't be in a hurry regarding Mac Allister's future."

After all, the World Cup winner will have turned 30 by the time his current deal runs out. The Reds must exercise caution before committing to a lucrative new contract for a player who could see his levels drop sharply, particularly given his struggles last season.

Should Mac Allister, who has already contributed five goal involvements this campaign, maintain his current form, he may well convince Liverpool to reconsider their earlier position.
