Phil Parkinson commended his Wrexham squad for displaying the "honesty and commitment" he expects from them in their 2–0 win against Middlesbrough.
The Red Dragons rebounded from a dreadful loss to Sheffield United the previous week by delivering their strongest performance of the campaign, and one of their best under Parkinson's management. Wrexham not only toppled the early Championship pacesetters, but fully merited the win with an all-round display in which virtually every player excelled.
The result was all the more impressive given how poorly Wrexham had performed in their previous match, when Parkinson publicly questioned his team's fighting spirit. There was no doubting his players' determination at the Racecourse Ground during the midweek fixture, with the manager feeling the display embodied exactly what owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds expect from the club.
Wrexham Show Two Key Traits to Beat Boro

Just five days on from their defeat at Bramall Lane, Wrexham put in a statement performance to prove that the players remain fully committed to Parkinson. George Thomason and Ollie Rathbone got on the scoresheet as Wrexham claimed their first home clean sheet of the season and handed Boro only their second loss of the campaign.
Wrexham will need another impressive showing when they host second-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers in North Wales this weekend, with a new benchmark now established for them to live up to. Parkinson accepts that results won't always go their way, but he'll have little to grumble about if his players bring the same level of dedication they showed in midweek.
"All I ever want, and all the owners want, is that honesty in the performance that our fans can relate to," Parkinson told Sports Illustrated following the victory. "That is why there has been that great connection with the supporters and the players and the owners and myself. Because, in general, they have seen honesty and commitment. That's what the club is all about. I am really pleased, not getting carried away, but we upset a good team tonight."

Wrexham enjoyed a comparable victory last season when they overcame then-league leaders Coventry City at the Racecourse Ground on Oct. 31. That win sparked a six-game unbeaten run, followed by six victories in 13 matches as Parkinson's side worked their way up the standings.
The manager would be delighted to see a similar reaction this time around and recognises that home form could prove crucial to a playoff push this season.
"It was important we put that back in place tonight. I've got to stress that it hasn't been missing all season; we've had some good performances," he added.
"However, in the first half against Sheffield United, we lacked everything we want to be as a team. Tonight, we were very structured without the ball. The gaps and spaces were tight, so we could get up to the ball and take the ball off them. The number of times we came out in duels tonight was exactly how we want to play.
"Middlesbrough know they have been in a game tonight. Mine, Steve, the rest of the staff's mantra since day one is that if anyone comes to the Racecourse, they have to know they have been in one hell of a game. I think the Middlesbrough players know that tonight."
