Lamine Yamal Shatters Kylian Mbappé's Champions League Record in Stunning Fashion

Lamine Yamal etched his name in the record books on a rain-soaked Camp Nou on Tuesday evening, becoming the all-time leading teenage scorer in Champions League history.

The 19-year-old has been in breathtaking form throughout 2026–27 and is the first player across Europe's top five leagues to record at least 10 goals and 10 assists in a single campaign.

It took him just seven minutes to break the deadlock against Aston Villa on Tuesday, capitalizing on reckless defending inside their own penalty area before slotting past goalkeeper Zion Suzuki with his trademark brilliance.

A brace from Raphinha helped the hosts cruise to a 3–0 victory over the previously unbeaten Villa side, as torrential rain fell across Catalonia.

Yamal's opening strike on Tuesday was his 14th in the Champions League, moving him past Kylian Mbappé as the competition's top teenage scorer.

Mbappé netted 13 times across 23 appearances for Monaco and PSG before turning 20. Yamal, meanwhile, has reached his tally over the course of 37 appearances.

With Yamal not turning 20 until next July, he has ample opportunity to push his record even further.

The three-time Kopa Trophy winner also sits just seven goals away from becoming the highest scorer before the age of 21—a benchmark currently owned by Erling Haaland.

The teenage scoring record is far from the only Champions League milestone Yamal holds. He is also the youngest player ever to start a game (16 years and 83 days), the youngest to both score and provide an assist in a single match (17 years and 241 days), and the youngest to find the net in a semifinal (17 years and 291 days).

Villa Struggle With 'Special Talent'

British Princes (and Villa supporters) William and George watched from the directors' box as Lamine Yamal further cemented his standing as soccer royalty on the waterlogged Camp Nou pitch.

Yamal finished the game with just one direct goal contribution, yet was a constant menace throughout, leading all players in touches inside the opposition box (12), dribbles completed (4), and shots taken (6).

It was the kind of performance that left opponents with little choice but to admire, with Villa skipper John McGinn full of praise for the winger in his post-match comments.

"He's a world-class player. He's a huge, huge talent. Very difficult to stop. You could see that tonight. He was involved in two goals and could have even scored more. He's a special talent and Barça are lucky to have him," McGinn told TNT Sports.

Meanwhile defender Pau Torres told SPORT: "He's a very unpredictable player, and often it's not enough to just mark him with one player."

The result brings Barça level with Villa on nine points after four matches of the Champions League league phase.
