Lewandowski Cements His Legacy as Barcelona Inch Closer to La Liga Glory Against Osasuna

Barcelona edged past Osasuna 2–1 on Saturday evening and can clinch the La Liga title on Sunday should Real Madrid drop points against Espanyol.

The first 80 minutes at the Estadio El Sadar were largely forgettable, but just as a draw seemed the most likely outcome, the final 10 minutes delivered a dramatic twist.

Robert Lewandowski further etched his name into Barcelona folklore by breaking the deadlock with a powerful header. Ferran Torres extended Barça's lead five minutes later, but Osasuna fought back and pulled one back through Raúl García.

Hansi Flick's side held firm to secure their 10th consecutive La Liga victory, moving 14 points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table. Los Blancos can no longer afford any slip-ups — and if not tomorrow, Barcelona could seal the title in El Clásico at the Camp Nou the following weekend.

The Moment That Defined the Match

Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona's attacking play was largely toothless and a goalless stalemate appeared to be on the cards. However, with 10 minutes remaining, Marcus Rashford and Lewandowski combined out of nowhere to break the deadlock.

Rashford received the ball near the edge of the box on the right flank, took a couple of steps back, and was remarkably afforded all the time he needed to survey the situation, orchestrate the play, and wait for the ideal moment as Lewandowski made his run from the back post.

The Englishman's cross was inch-perfect, and the experienced Polish striker was never going to miss a header from that range, thundering the ball into the net to hand the Catalans the lead.

Before the goal, Barça's attack had been sluggish and unable to find pockets of space. Within five minutes of Lewandowski's opener, Torres had doubled the Blaugrana's advantage.

A single moment of connection between Rashford and Lewandowski was all it took to turn the game on its head and bring Barça within touching distance of the La Liga title.

In what may prove to be Lewandowski's final goal for the club, he delivered at the most crucial moment to all but wrap up the championship.

Barcelona Player Ratings vs. Osasuna (4-2-3-1)

Gavi

*Ratings provided by FotMob*

GK: Joan García—6.6: Once again, García produced a couple of outstanding saves, continuing to establish himself as the finest goalkeeper in Spain this campaign.

RB: Eric García—7.6: The adaptable García performed admirably at the back, filling in capably for the suspended Jules Koundé. Solid defensively, though he contributed little in an attacking sense.

CB: Pau Cubarsí—8.2: The young defender is hitting his peak form at just the right time. In individual duels against attackers, he looked commanding and assured throughout.

CB: Gerard Martín—7.4: Much like his central defensive partner, Martín put in another resolute display, keeping Ante Budimir quiet with disciplined marking that gave the striker no room to shoot.

LB: João Cancelo—7.7: Fulfilled his defensive responsibilities effectively and contributed some neat touches to help Barça move the ball forward. His deliveries into the box, however, left something to be desired.

DM: Gavi—7.7: Another dependable performance from Gavi, who continues to provide balance in Barça's midfield and allow Pedri to roam freely since returning from injury. Gavi clearly holds a prominent place in Flick's plans, but he needs to cut out his reckless challenges having been booked in five of his last six outings.

DM: Pedri—7.6: One of those evenings where Pedri channeled the spirit of both Andrés Iniesta and Xavi Hernández. Commanding in every facet from the heart of midfield.

RW: Roony Bardghji—6.6: Plenty of body feints, step-overs and flashy tricks caught the eye, but the safe backward pass that almost always followed made Bardghji's overall contribution a source of frustration.

AM: Dani Olmo—6.5: A below-par showing from Olmo, who never settled into the game and was sloppy in possession, with one particularly careless turnover near his own box nearly gifting Osasuna the opening goal.

LW: Fermín López—7.8: Repeatedly made runs in behind the defensive line that went largely unnoticed by his teammates. He had limited involvement with the ball, but his relentless effort was rewarded when he set up Barça's second goal.

ST: Robert Lewandowski—7.8: Potentially in his final chapter as a Barcelona player, Lewandowski delivered yet another pivotal goal in the title run-in. A classic finish from one of football's greatest ever strikers.

SUB: Frenkie de Jong (62' for Gavi)—6.7: Misplaced just two of the 29 passes he attempted during his time on the pitch.

SUB: Ferran Torres (62' for Olmo)—7.4: Looked threatening from the moment he came on and capped his cameo by scoring what proved to be the decisive goal with a well-timed run and composed finish.

SUB: Marcus Rashford (62' for Bardghji)—6.8: A second consecutive impressive cameo from Rashford, who kept his composure and delivered the perfect assist for Lewandowski's opener.

SUB: Ronald Araújo (82' for E. García)—N/A

SUB: Marc Bernal (82' for Pedri)—N/A:

Subs not used: Eder Aller (GK), Wojciech Szczęsny (GK), Marc Casadó, Xavi Espart, Alejandro Balde, Raphinha.
