Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior stopped short of dismissing reports suggesting Alejandro Garnacho could be offloaded in the summer, instead stating that it is his "job" to get the unpredictable winger performing at a higher level.
It has been a difficult debut campaign at Stamford Bridge for Garnacho. The winger hit a new low in Saturday's encounter with his former side, Manchester United. Garnacho was left out of the starting lineup—a common occurrence this season—and failed to make any meaningful impact after coming on in the first half as a replacement for the injured Estêvão.
The pacey attacker spent the majority of his 74 minutes on the field swapping flanks with Pedro Neto in a futile attempt to find a United fullback he could get the better of. His efforts came to nothing.
That performance was emblematic of a deeply disappointing season for the 21-year-old. Garnacho has accumulated more Premier League yellow cards (two) than goals (one) this term, while off-field reports about his "attitude" have been far from complimentary.
Following Saturday's loss, talkSPORT went as far as claiming that Chelsea are prepared to sell Garnacho less than a year after paying around $54 million (£40 million) to bring him from Old Trafford.
When pressed on the claim, Rosenior questioned where it originated. "I'd like to know the source of the report. These reports can come from anywhere," the Chelsea manager said. However, he chose not to outright deny the speculation—unlike his response when asked about a possible departure for Cole Palmer.
"Garna is 21 years old," Rosenior added. "Garna is someone who has special qualities when he is in a good place and he's in good form. And my job is to help him reach those levels."
Based on the harsh character assessment delivered by Garnacho's former Manchester United academy manager and club legend Nicky Butt, Rosenior's task is not made any easier by the personality he is dealing with.
'A Disgrace'—Garnacho Savaged by Man Utd Legend

Butt described Garnacho's conduct during his time at Manchester United as "a disgrace," arguing that the young forward was elevated to "superstar status way too quick," both in terms of his ability and his psychological readiness.
"He signed at 16," Butt recalled on his podcast with Paul Scholes, The Good, The Bad & The Football. "Garnacho was always a bit stand-off-ish, he had a high opinion of himself.
"I thought he had an edge about him. And when he got into the first team—I will just say what I think because I was there—he got above his station way too quick. He got superstar status way too quick."
Garnacho made his Premier League debut as a 17-year-old—coincidentally against Chelsea—towards the end of the troubled 2021–22 season before breaking through under Erik ten Hag. The teenager scored a late winner against Fulham in a campaign that yielded five goals and five assists despite starting just 11 times.

The Madrid-born Argentina international eventually established himself on one of United's flanks, reaching double figures for goals across 50 appearances during the 2023–24 season. As Butt noted, Garnacho's profile skyrocketed after he netted a spectacular overhead kick against Everton in November 2023.
"Someone in that club or team at the time should have been swatting him down," Butt argued, "and they might have been, and he ignored them. But the best thing Man Utd did was sell him because, forget his ability, and I don't think he is that great anyway, but I thought his attitude was a disgrace when he was at Man Utd.
"More importantly when he left, and if you completely disrespect your teammates and the football club when you leave, then that's it."
Garnacho notoriously expressed his frustration at being benched for much of the 2025 Europa League final, reportedly prompting then-manager Ruben Amorim to tell the forward in front of his entire squad that he should seek a move elsewhere.
That search led him to Chelsea, but he may soon find himself back on the transfer market.
