Liverpool are approaching a critical crossroads in their search for a top-tier successor to the outgoing Mohamed Salah.
The Reds said goodbye to their talismanic forward this summer and now face the daunting challenge of replacing a player whose nine seasons at Anfield cemented his status as one of the Premier League's all-time greats.
RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande was originally the primary target, but despite Liverpool's readiness to splash $114 million (€100 million, £85 million) on the Ivorian star, Paris Saint-Germain appear set to win the race for his signature.
Reports indicate PSG winger Bradley Barcola could emerge as a top alternative. L'Équipe notes that Liverpool have the most serious interest in a player who also features on Arsenal's list of attacking transfer targets.
Should either Premier League powerhouse wish to sign Barcola this summer, they can expect to face a staggering asking price of $171 million (€150 million, £128 million)—far exceeding what was required for Diomande.
Is Barcola Worth $171 Million?

There is little question that today's transfer market is massively inflated. Whether any player genuinely justifies a $171 million price tag is a fair debate, but that is simply the reality of football in 2026.
From a negotiating standpoint, PSG rank among the most difficult clubs in the world to do business with. The Parisian outfit are one of Europe's wealthiest clubs and possess in Barcola a 23-year-old winger widely regarded as a future superstar in the making.
In a market where Diomande commands $114 million and Elliot Anderson costs Manchester City $153 million, PSG appear entirely justified in demanding such a hefty fee for Barcola.
Despite being just 23, Barcola already carries considerable experience. He dazzled at Lyon in early 2022 and is approaching 130 Ligue 1 appearances, while he has spent two seasons at a Champions League-winning club and is now representing France at the World Cup. That is a remarkable profile for someone so young.
Those opportunities have been well deserved by Barcola, who is a dynamic, quick-footed winger with a flair for explosive dribbling and a knack for creating both goals and chances. His goal-scoring output is not yet at the elite level, but there are enough signs to suggest it will develop.
It is that upside that gives PSG the leverage to demand such a hefty sum, though the elephant in the room remains the fact that Barcola has just two years remaining on his current deal.

Barcola is already finding playing time harder to come by in a forward line tipped to be bolstered by both Diomande and Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche, making it increasingly difficult to persuade him to extend his contract.
This summer may well represent PSG's last opportunity to command anything close to full market value for Barcola, whose price is likely to decline as his contract winds down. Interested parties like Arsenal and Liverpool will undoubtedly look to exploit that situation to their benefit.
