Liverpool are reportedly set to make a speedy winger their top transfer priority this summer as they look to address the squad imbalances created by last summer's massive spending spree.
The Reds splashed over $600 million in a whirlwind of activity ahead of the current season, yet they are expected to invest heavily once more this summer following a thoroughly disappointing campaign on all fronts.
Liverpool's squad has several glaring weaknesses. Additional cover at center back is needed, a defensive midfielder is considered essential, and left back must be reinforced following Andy Robertson's exit. Should Alisson depart as speculated, a replacement goalkeeper would also be necessary.
However, The Athletic have reported that Liverpool's top priority is "pace out wide," an area the Reds have badly lacked since opting not to replace Luis Díaz last summer.
With Mohamed Salah also departing at the season's end and Federico Chiesa almost certainly heading for the exit alongside him, Liverpool "have to recruit at least two attackers." The long-term injury suffered by Hugo Ekitiké—potentially keeping him out until 2027—must also factor into their transfer planning.
Cody Gakpo's disappointing displays have further compounded Liverpool's problems on the flanks, while Rio Nguomha's rough-around-the-edges talent will require years of development before it fully matures.
Fortunately for the Reds, the market is well-stocked with quality wide options.
Ranking Liverpool's Winger Targets
5. Rayan

Rayan only made his move to English football in the January transfer window, yet the gifted Brazilian has wasted no time making his mark. After shining for Vasco da Gama in South America, Bournemouth invested $34 million to secure his signature and have been quickly rewarded with four goals and two assists across just 12 outings.
The teenager's blistering pace, inventiveness and, above all, his ceiling make him one of the Premier League's most exciting emerging talents, and speculation linking him to Europe's biggest clubs has already begun. A right-sided attacker with a deadly left foot, he could prove a shrewd long-term successor to Salah.
4. Yankuba Minteh

Liverpool have already felt the full force of Yankuba Minteh's explosive pace and direct style this season, with the Gambian putting on a dazzling display in Brighton & Hove Albion's 2–1 victory over the Reds in March. The 21-year-old has put together two fruitful seasons on the south coast, though a return of just six goal involvements this campaign leaves room for improvement.
Speed is undoubtedly among Minteh's standout qualities. The winger has reached a top speed of 22.4 mph this season—just outside the top 10 in the division. He has also previously worked under Arne Slot, which could prove beneficial should the Dutch manager keep his job.
Minteh contributed 11 goals and five assists for Feyenoord during the 2023–24 season under Slot.
3. Bradley Barcola

Bradley Barcola would represent an ambitious and perhaps unlikely pursuit, but Liverpool would be foolish not to at least investigate the possibility. Now effectively Paris Saint-Germain's fourth-choice attacker, the Frenchman may be tempted to step out from the shadow of his teammates this summer—though departing the reigning European champions, who could defend their crown before the month is out, would be a significant gamble.
The 23-year-old ranks among the most exciting wingers in world football and has thrived under Luis Enrique's guidance. Barcola racked up 39 goal contributions last season, and even a more subdued tally of 20 this term remains highly impressive. He would command a hefty fee, but ticks every box on Liverpool's wish list.
2. Anthony Gordon

Liverpool have long been connected with a potential move for Anthony Gordon. The Newcastle United winger built his reputation at Merseyside rivals Everton, though he was part of Liverpool's academy as a youngster. There may well be a sense of unfinished business for the Scouser, who looks increasingly likely to depart St. James' Park this summer.
Gordon will attract interest from top clubs across Europe. Bayern Munich and Arsenal are among those reportedly in the running, but the pull of Liverpool could be especially compelling for a local boy and lifelong supporter. The Reds know exactly what the 25-year-old Englishman brings—extensive Premier League experience, electrifying pace and a sharp eye for goal.
Liverpool have been on the receiving end of his quality on numerous occasions.
1. Yan Diomande

Yan Diomande appears to be Liverpool's primary target this summer and is the player specifically mentioned by The Athletic in relation to the club's hunt for a wide forward. A stunning debut campaign with RB Leipzig has produced 13 goals and eight assists, cementing the 19-year-old's status as one of the brightest young talents in world football.
Diomande possesses exceptional pace, but his adaptability and end product also make him a highly attractive prospect. The Ivory Coast international is comfortable on either wing, though his right-footed nature makes him best suited to the left flank. Outstanding agility and tight ball control are further hallmarks of his rapidly developing game.
Diomande may carry a price tag of around $115 million, but few youngsters can rival his blossoming ability and extraordinary potential.
