Manchester United and Liverpool may need to explore other avenues if they hope to bolster their attacking options this summer, as RB Leipzig's breakout star Yan Diomande appears set to stay put.
The young winger has made his intentions clear, openly stating that he expects to remain at Leipzig for the upcoming season.
The 19-year-old Côte d'Ivoire international has racked up 21 Bundesliga goal contributions in his debut full season at the top level, having arrived at Leipzig from Leganés last summer—a club where he made his senior debut less than 14 months ago.
His meteoric rise has naturally drawn interest from elite clubs. Diomande is comfortable on either flank. Manchester United are without a genuine left-wing option, while Liverpool face the looming challenge of replacing Mohamed Salah on the right.
Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have also been mentioned as suitors over recent months.
However, in an interview with kicker, Diomande suggested a departure is far from imminent: "I'm not thinking about [leaving] right now. I'm at Leipzig and I enjoy playing here. In the end, it's always the statistics that count. It's been a fantastic year for me."
Diomande Transfer More Likely in 2027

Leipzig's asking price for Diomande has so far proven to be a significant barrier. The Bundesliga outfit, who are set to return to Champions League football in 2026–27 following an absence from UEFA competition this term, are widely reported to be demanding €100 million ($116.2 million, £86.7 million) for the player—a steep fee for someone still unproven beyond a single campaign.
His trajectory could mirror that of Benjamin Šeško, whose anticipated 2024 departure was pushed back by a year. The Slovenian striker signed a contract extension with the understanding that Leipzig would sanction a move in 2025. Reports suggest Diomande is already in discussions over a new deal at the Red Bull Arena under similar terms.
Should he maintain his current form, a high-profile transfer next year remains very much on the cards—by which point Diomande would still be just a few months away from turning 21.
Man Utd, Liverpool Alternatives to Signing Diomande

Since Manchester United and Liverpool are targeting wingers on opposite sides, there is limited overlap in their potential transfer pursuits. One name that does appear on both radars, however, is Anthony Gordon—predominantly a left winger who can also operate on the right or as a false nine.
Liverpool could look to bring in the 25-year-old for the left flank, where he would represent an upgrade on Cody Gakpo, while reorganising the squad to address the Salah vacancy. Options such as Jeremie Frimpong pushing further forward, or Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz operating from the right, could all be considered.
Gordon hails from Liverpool and was raised in a family that supported the club, though he was let go by their academy at 11 and subsequently joined city rivals Everton. Any interested club may need to act swiftly, however, with Bayern Munich also reportedly circling.
West Ham United skipper Jarrod Bowen is another name on Liverpool's radar, a move that could become more feasible should the Hammers suffer relegation. Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche is also being monitored, offering a younger profile than Bowen and likely at a lower price point.
For Manchester United, the most prominent winger targets beyond Diomande have been Morgan Rogers, despite his standout season at Aston Villa coming in a No. 10 capacity, and Everton's Iliman Ndiaye, who offers flexibility across both wings.
