Michael Carrick says he couldn't be more pleased with how Manchester United's players have responded to Lisandro Martínez's sharp criticism of the club's leadership—and made clear he's prepared to move forward with the center back included in his squad.
An irate Martínez held nothing back in a post-match interview after Tuesday's 2–0 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, taking aim at United's summer transfer dealings and specifically calling out technical director Jason Wilcox.
A public apology was later issued, with reports indicating Martínez was handed a fine by the club for his conduct. As far as Carrick is concerned, the episode is now closed.
"It's done, really," he emphasized at his Friday press conference. "We've moved on from that. It was one of those things, I think Licha's come out and acknowledged the situation, and as a group, we've moved on.
"It's really not a drama for us as a group. I think the boys have trained really well. This morning, there was a really good feeling around this squad. A really good feeling, I have to say they were in really good spirits and trained really well, so we've moved on pretty quickly."
When asked directly whether Martínez would feature in his matchday squad for Sunday's clash with Leeds United, Carrick confirmed: "He's part of the squad, yeah."
