Man Utd Set to Double Bruno Fernandes' Salary in Blockbuster New Deal

Galatasaray are reportedly willing to offer Bruno Fernandes a contract worth more than twice his current net earnings at Manchester United, though the attractive proposal is expected to be rejected.

Fernandes's future has come under fresh scrutiny in recent weeks following reports of interest from Serie A duo Juventus and AC Milan, the latter being managed by his fellow countryman and former United head coach Ruben Amorim.

Turkish title holders Galatasaray were also named as potential suitors and appear set to be the first club to put United's determination to the test. The Istanbul club is ready to submit a bid of $57.9 million (£42.7 million, €50 million), with $40.5 million guaranteed upfront and the rest consisting of various performance-related bonuses, according to The Telegraph.

An additional element is the financial package being dangled in front of Fernandes himself.

The big-spending league champions are reportedly willing to pay Fernandes $24.3 million (£18 million, €21 million) per season over a four-year deal. Turkish clubs effectively cover their players' tax obligations, meaning these figures represent what Fernandes would take home directly.

In the U.K., the United captain's wages are subject to income tax and national insurance, which accounts for just under half of Fernandes's total earnings. Based on his reported annual gross salary following the pay increase tied to Champions League qualification, the midfielder's net pay currently sits at approximately $9.3 million per year.

As appealing as Galatasaray's proposal may appear on paper, Manchester United have made their position abundantly clear.

Man Utd 'Respond' to Lucrative Fernandes Offer

Manchester United have no plans to allow Fernandes to depart, BBC Sport reports. Strikingly, it has been suggested that no transfer fee would be sufficient to convince the Red Devils to consider selling their captain.

Fernandes has just one year remaining on his current deal and has shown no indication of signing a new one. While there is little to suggest he is eager to leave Old Trafford—quite the contrary has been reported—this would realistically be the final summer in which United could command any meaningful fee for a player who turns 32 in September.

The reported release clause in Fernandes's contract is believed to have lapsed last month.

This unwavering stance is understandable from a footballing standpoint. Fernandes delivered the most creatively productive season of his career last term, registering a record-breaking 21 Premier League assists. The dynamic playmaker created a league-leading 136 chances, nearly three times more than United's second-most productive creator Bryan Mbeumo (47).

Fernandes also contributed nine goals and topped the entire squad for possessions won. "Every good team has players that have made a major impact. That's how it is," United manager Michael Carrick said this summer. "Bruno has had that for a period of time here. We want to keep pushing and want to get the best out of Bruno and the team around him."

Galatasaray would not be the first club to put a staggering salary offer on the table for Fernandes. In fact, the Turkish club's proposal is modest compared to the enormous sums Al Hilal have presented to the Portugal international in recent years. Yet, every summer that Saudi Pro League interest emerged, Fernandes chose to remain at United.

"Money, you can get anywhere," he remarked in an interview with The Times earlier this year. "A lot of clubs in the Premier League pay well, a lot of clubs in Italy, Spain, pay you a lot. You come to this club [Manchester United] because of the history, because of what you think you can achieve.

"[Whether] you end up achieving or not, that's a question of you being better than the other teams. But what I always say to the club is you can't promise me I'm going to win the Premier League, that's impossible, but if you promise we're going to be competitive—that's all I need to know."

United have rarely appeared as competitive as they do during Fernandes's eventful time in Manchester. Carrick guided the Red Devils back into the Champions League with a third-place finish, instilling belief among many squad members that a Premier League title is within reach. If Fernandes was prepared to turn down even greater financial rewards when United were in a far worse position, it would be remarkable to see him walk away now.
