Man Utd Stars Set for Massive Pay Boost Following Champions League Return

A large portion of Manchester United's squad will reportedly receive significant wage increases following the club's qualification for next season's Champions League.

Man Utd secured their place in the 2026–27 tournament last weekend, defeating bitter rivals Liverpool 3–2 to mathematically guarantee a top-five finish before the season concludes. The Red Devils currently sit third in the table with 64 points—exactly half of which have been accumulated under Michael Carrick since his interim appointment in January.

Having booked their place in Europe's top club competition, The Guardian reports that the majority of Man Utd's first-team players will receive a 25% salary boost, though some will see smaller rises and others will not benefit at all.

It remains unclear exactly which United players will not receive additional pay. Any increase is tied to individual Champions League incentive clauses within player contracts, rather than a blanket club-wide bonus arrangement.

Only three players are specifically named in connection with pay rises, with captain Bruno Fernandes among those set to receive the full increase. Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire, who both recently penned contract extensions at Old Trafford, will also see financial rewards from the club's return to Champions League football.

Who Is Man Utd's Highest Paid Player?

Casemiro is currently the club's top earner, collecting roughly $470,000 per week in Manchester. However, the experienced Brazilian will be departing United at the end of this season, paving the way for a new highest-paid player.

According to the report, Bruno Fernandes will take over that mantle from Casemiro, earning approximately $340,000 per week once his pay rise is formally confirmed.

Based on widely reported salary figures, this increase would place the Portuguese midfielder as the Premier League's seventh highest-paid player in 2026–27—at least for now—once Casemiro, Mohamed Salah, and Bernardo Silva have all departed their respective clubs.

Mainoo's new deal is believed to be worth around $163,000 per week, meaning he will still earn less than each of United's three attacking signings from last summer.

Wage Bill Set for Dramatic Decrease

The departure of Casemiro's hefty salary from the wage bill will provide United with notable financial relief heading into the summer transfer window, even if replacing his influence on the pitch will prove challenging.

Approximately $100,000 per week will also be shed when Tyrell Malacia leaves on a free transfer this summer, with further high-earning departures also expected.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and André Onana all look set to leave upon returning from their respective loan moves, while Rasmus Højlund is poised to join Napoli on a permanent basis to free up additional funds.

Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte are further players who could be sold for fees this summer, creating space for another major overhaul in the transfer market.
