Manchester United's pursuit of 18-year-old midfielder Louis Page from Leicester City may pick up again in January, following reports that the two clubs were unable to agree on a transfer fee before the summer window closed.
Page only celebrated his 18th birthday eight weeks ago, yet made 21 appearances for Leicester last season. He has featured in all five of the club's matches so far in 2026–27, starting each of the last three—including the Deadline Day EFL League One fixture between the Foxes and Plymouth Argyle.
He burst onto the scene shortly after fellow young prospect Jeremy Monga. However, while 17-year-old Monga was acquired by Manchester City in July, Page will continue as a Leicester player.
The Athletic reports that Page "made clear" his desire to join Manchester United following early interest from Arsenal during the summer. Despite this, negotiations failed to produce a satisfactory deal before the transfer window shut.
It was anticipated that Page's fee would exceed the $16.9 million (£12.5 million) package Manchester City paid for Monga. Leicester, however, demanded nearly that amount as a guaranteed sum, with a total of up to $20.3 million (£15 million) including add-ons. Further discussions will be necessary.
Page Was Always Intended to Stay at Leicester
Even if a transfer had been finalized, Page would have remained at Leicester on loan for the rest of this season, continuing to build valuable first-team experience in League One.
That aspect of the proposal means little has effectively changed. If his preference remains Manchester United, the Red Devils should still hold an edge over competing clubs like Arsenal when it comes to securing a deal—with January representing the next realistic window of opportunity.
The drawback is that nothing is guaranteed, and United have no control over Page's situation in the meantime. Depending on how he performs, Leicester could even push his asking price higher.
What seems far more likely, though, is that a player of Page's caliber—a versatile No. 6 or No. 8—will be making a move to a bigger club than Leicester before he turns 19 next July.
