No club in MLS dominates at home quite like the New England Revolution have in 2026, and U.S. men's national team goalkeeper Matt Turner is a central figure in that dominance.
On Saturday, the Revolution defeated Minnesota United 2–1 for their seventh victory in eight home outings this season, extending a commanding run and eclipsing their remarkable start to the 2021 campaign, which set an MLS regular season points record and claimed the Supporters' Shield.
Turner was the Revolution's last line of defense back then, a year ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and following a short stint in Europe, is once again a cornerstone of the side as he sets his sights on a second World Cup, this time on American soil.
Turner's devoted followers from the New England Rebellion supporters' group made a point of expressing their gratitude at the club's final home fixture before FIFA takes over Gillette Stadium, which is set to host six World Cup matches.
Unveiling a spectacular tifo bearing Turner's likeness and a message directed at USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino, it declared "Poch, take note. There's only one Matt Turner" — a moment that caught the 2021 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year off guard, having rejoined the club in the summer of 2025.

"No, I definitely didn't know it was happening, but it was emotional," Turner said after the match, having bounced back from a dismal showing against Nashville SC earlier in the week.
"Coming back here in general, just for my career, to return and be here, knowing I was going to put myself in a strong position to give the [USMNT] coaches something to consider, being on the roster, playing, whatever it takes.
"For the fans to share in that journey and show their support, especially after a difficult night on Wednesday, it was emotional, and it was truly special, and also reassuring that I'm heading in the right direction."
Turner Faces Competition For World Cup Starting Spot

While Turner is among the few players virtually certain to feature in the USMNT's 26-man roster — to be announced on May 26 — and has thrived with the Revolution, he remains locked in a battle for the starting position.
After holding down the No. 1 spot heading into the 2022 World Cup and in the seasons that followed, he lost that standing following a disappointing group stage exit at the 2024 Copa América and a string of underwhelming displays in the 2025 Concacaf Nations League finals against Mexico and Canada.

In his absence, New York City FC's Matt Freese stepped up and started every USMNT match between the March 2025 Nations League finals and the recent 2026 March friendly against Belgium, in which Turner made five saves from 10 shots.
The pair are expected to compete throughout the pre-World Cup friendlies against Germany and Senegal, as well as in training, with Turner eager to demonstrate that his improved club form can carry over to football's grandest stage.
