Nottingham Forest Pull The Trigger On Vitor Pereira With Premier League Successor Ready To Step In

Despite steering the club clear of relegation from the Premier League, Nottingham Forest have decided to part company with Vitor Pereira.

It was an extraordinarily chaotic season at the City Ground, with Evangelos Marinakis turning to three separate managers following Nuno Espírito Santo's departure.

Forest had secured a Europa League place under Nuno the previous season, but a fractured relationship between the manager and Marinakis's newly appointed Global Head of Football, Edu Gaspar, brought his stint to an end. Ange Postecoglou's time in charge was remarkably short-lived, while Sean Dyche lasted just 114 days before he too was shown the door.

Pereira stepped in during February with Forest sitting 17th and only three points clear of the drop zone. They ultimately finished five points safe, securing their survival with two matches remaining.

Even so, that proved insufficient for the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss to retain his position.

The Telegraph reported that a "mutual break clause" existed in Pereira's contract (since confirmed by the club), which was triggered just two minutes before it lapsed at midnight on Tuesday, June 30.

The Portuguese coach was caught completely off guard by the decision, stating: "Naturally, I am disappointed and saddened. I truly believed in what we were building together, and I leave with a sense of pride in everything we achieved over the past months.

"I leave Nottingham Forest with no bitterness or resentment—only respect, gratitude and wonderful memories."

Pereira endured consecutive defeats in his opening two matches at the helm, but then guided the side through a seven-game unbeaten stretch to secure their top-flight status. The club also advanced to the Europa League semifinals under his leadership before suffering a heavy loss to Aston Villa.

"We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Vítor and his team for their hard work and commitment throughout their time at the Club," part of Forest's official statement read.

"Everyone at Nottingham Forest is grateful for their considerable efforts and for the relationships they forged with our players, staff and supporters.

"We thank them all for their service and wish them every success in the next stage of their careers."

Pereira, who pulled off a near-miraculous escape with Wolves the season before, appears to be establishing himself as a specialist Premier League survival expert — a continental equivalent of Sam Allardyce.

Oliver Glasner Ready to Succeed Pereira

Oliver Glasner

Fabrizio Romano is among those reporting that Forest are set to name former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner as Pereira's replacement.

The Austrian will go down as the most successful manager in the Eagles' history, having led the club to both FA Cup and Conference League triumphs during his tenure in south London. However, Glasner announced back in January that he would be departing at the conclusion of the 2025–26 season.

He had been on Manchester United's radar before they opted to retain Michael Carrick, and Forest view the imminent signing of the 51-year-old as a significant achievement. Glasner is anticipated to put pen to paper on a three-year contract at the City Ground.

The move will undoubtedly infuriate Palace fans, given that it was Forest who effectively 'took' the Eagles' Europa League place last season due to multi-club ownership violations. They would have hoped Glasner would pursue greater ambitions rather than join their newly formed fierce rivals.

Forest travel to Selhurst Park early in the 2026–27 Premier League season on October 10, where Glasner will go head-to-head with his own successor, Pierre Sage. It promises to be a highly charged encounter, with the animosity between the two clubs only intensified by Glasner's decision to join Forest.
