The Premier League Record-Breaker That Arsenal, Barcelona, and Man City Are Desperate to Snatch Up

Bournemouth forward Junior Kroupi's outstanding season has caught the attention of European powerhouses Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester City, all of whom are reportedly keeping tabs on the young striker.

The 19-year-old made the move to Bournemouth from Lorient for a modest fee of around $14 million (£11.2 million) in February 2025, before returning to the French club on loan for the rest of that campaign.

This season marks Kroupi's first proper stint with the Cherries, and despite being a newcomer to the Premier League, the France youth international has put together a sensational run of form. Back-to-back goals in his most recent outings have taken his tally to 12 for the season, equalling a record set by Robbie Keane and Robbie Fowler for the most Premier League goals scored by a teenager in their debut campaign.

Unsurprisingly, top clubs have taken notice, with The Times reporting that Premier League title contenders Arsenal and Man City are both keeping a close eye on him. Barcelona, perennially in pursuit of attacking talent, are also said to be admirers of the young Frenchman.

Kroupi's Bournemouth contract contains no release clause, which complicates matters for any interested parties, and the south coast club are intent on holding onto him for at least one more season. They believe he has the potential to become a £100 million ($136 million) player.

The forward has been a key figure in Bournemouth's impressive season, which could yet culminate in Champions League qualification.

Why Are European Giants Circling Kroupi?

Eli Junior Kroupi

Kroupi's goal output is the primary driver behind the interest from Europe's elite clubs. Only seven players have outscored the gifted teenager in the Premier League this season, with just two of his goals coming from the penalty spot.

His versatility adds further to his appeal. Kroupi has also been used as an attacking midfielder operating behind Evanilson at various points this season. Even in a deeper role, his effectiveness hasn't diminished — five of his goals have come in 13 appearances as a No. 10.

Having built up an impressive collection of powerful strikes, Kroupi's clean technique in front of goal has been central to his tally, while his close control and pace across the attacking line have also drawn widespread admiration.

Perhaps most striking is Kroupi's clinical edge despite having his minutes carefully managed. The Frenchman has frequently come off the bench this season, starting only 18 league games, and is often substituted before the 70-minute mark.

Even so, Kroupi is registering a goal every 121 minutes in the Premier League — a rate surpassed only by Newcastle United's William Osula (117 mins) and Man City's Erling Haaland (111 mins) this season.

Could Arsenal, Barcelona, Man City Move for Kroupi This Summer?

Barcelona look to be the club with the most pressing need for Kroupi this summer. With Robert Lewandowski almost certain to depart when his contract expires, Ferran Torres would be left as the only natural centre-forward option at the Catalan club.

That said, Barça will be weighing up a range of candidates to replace the Polish striker, including more proven names like Julián Alvarez. Kroupi would command a significant fee, and given the club's well-documented financial constraints, splashing out heavily on a relatively unproven talent may give them pause.

Arsenal are not necessarily in the market for a striker or No. 10 — both positions were well reinforced during last summer's spending spree — but Man City could be in the hunt for a centre-forward should Omar Mamroush depart. The Egyptian has been linked with a move away amid reported dissatisfaction over his lack of playing time.

Other major European clubs will also be monitoring Kroupi's situation. Manchester United will be looking for a backup to Benjamin Šeško next season as they manage both European and domestic commitments, while Chelsea remain keen to find a reliable No. 9 to ease the goalscoring pressure on João Pedro.
