With the summer transfer window now shut, Manchester United have officially submitted their first-team squad registration to the Premier League for the 2026–27 season.
Squads are capped at 25 senior players, with no more than 17 permitted to fall outside the league's 'homegrown' criteria—defined as being registered with a club in England or Wales for three full seasons, or 36 months, before the age of 21.
United have listed eight 'homegrown' players—Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Amad Diallo, Tom Heaton, Karl Darlow and Dermot Mee—alongside 15 non-homegrown players.
One notable absentee from the registered squad, however, is Kobbie Mainoo. The young midfielder has endured a turbulent period, having been sidelined under Ruben Amorim during the first half of last season before Michael Carrick brought him back into a key role.
Kobbie Mainoo Squad Status Not Necessary Under Rules

Mainoo's absence from the list carries no cause for concern, however. His date of birth, after the start of 2005, means he qualifies as an U-21 player this campaign. Players in that age bracket do not require the same registration process and remain fully eligible to feature in Premier League matches.
Leny Yoro, who reaches his 21st birthday in November, falls into the same category and is similarly left off the senior squad list. This has no bearing on either player's availability. Ayden Heaven, Tyler Fletcher, Shea Lacey, Harry Amass and summer recruit Tynan Thompson all have varying degrees of first-team potential this season and also qualify as U-21 players. Supporters will be eager to see Paraguayan left back Diego León make his mark, while new arrival Cristian Orozco, a Colombian midfielder, is another name to keep an eye on.
Kai Rooney, son of Old Trafford icon Wayne Rooney, also features as an U-21 player for the first time after being taken on as a first-year scholar—the opening phase of the two-year youth development programme for players between 16 and 18—during the summer. Carrick's son, Jacey, is included in the same bracket. Several other names on the U-21 list may already be recognisable from their involvement in the early rounds of preseason training.
Teenage sensation JJ Gabriel doesn't even appear on the U-21 list, as the young attacker is just 15 years old and has yet to advance to the later stage of the academy setup, despite having featured in Premier League 2 fixtures over the past fortnight. He is nonetheless eligible to make his senior debut this season.
