Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson sanctioned the departures of Arthur Okonkwo and Ryan Barnett, allowing both players to seek regular first-team action elsewhere.
The Red Dragons granted the two fan favourites permission to depart on loan during the final stages of the summer transfer window, with both men looking for more playing time after slipping down the squad hierarchy at the Racecourse Ground.
Barnett, one of 10 players who achieved three consecutive promotions with Wrexham from the National League, has signed for League One outfit MK Dons on a season-long loan. Okonkwo, who served as goalkeeper during both the League Two and League One promotion runs, has moved to Championship club Charlton Athletic until the season's conclusion.
Both players' contracts expire next summer, though Wrexham hold an option to extend Barnett's deal by a further year. With no contract renewals currently being offered, both could walk away as free agents once their loan stints conclude.
While it is never easy to see beloved players depart the Racecourse Ground, Parkinson felt it was only right to give two deserving players the chance to feature more consistently this campaign.
Parkinson Explains Barnett and Okonkwo Exits

Speaking to the media ahead of Wrexham's opening home fixture of the season against Watford, Parkinson shed light on the reasoning behind the two most recent departures.
"Starting with Ryan, he has been a tremendous player for us," the Wrexham manager said. "Going back to when we brought him in from Solihull Moors, there were moments where he truly lit this place up with his quality on the ball. His chances have been limited, and it's vital for him now that he gets back out there playing regularly.
"There was plenty of interest, though perhaps not as much as I anticipated. Clubs needed to look back at his performances, as Paul Warne has done, particularly his form in the early part of that League One season. I believe that's exactly what MK Dons have done, and they've secured a really strong signing in Barney.
"Barney has also been a great presence within the squad even when he wasn't getting game time last year. During preseason, we had plenty of conversations about his situation, but he never complained once. He was content to be patient, wait for the right move and ensure he trained well to give himself the best possible chance at MK Dons.

"Arthur clearly wanted to continue as a No. 1 goalkeeper, and Charlton have handed him that platform. It's a deal that works for everyone involved. Arthur has been an outstanding player for us, and we'll never forget the effort we put in to bring him to the club back in League Two. Another top character — he has bounced back from a couple of serious injuries along the way and really stepped up when it counted most."
