Goalkeepers in both the men's and women's game dream of one day lifting the Yashin Trophy, presented each year to the finest shot-stoppers in football.

Introduced in 2019, the accolade was named in honor of Lev Yashin, the only goalkeeper in history to have claimed the Ballon d'Or. Since its inception, the world's best male goalkeeper has been recognized with the prize annually, with the sole exception of 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic forced a suspension.

Six years on, the Women's Yashin Trophy was launched to celebrate the finest female goalkeepers in the sport as well.

To date, only five individuals have claimed these prestigious honors, but more names could be etched into the record books at the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony. The nominee list features 10 men and five women, all vying to become the next goalkeepers to add the trophy to their collections.

Who Has Won the Most Men's Yashin Trophy Awards?

Gianluigi Donnarumma and Emiliano Martínez share the record with two Men's Yashin Trophy wins apiece. Donnarumma first claimed the honor in 2021 following Italy's triumph at the European Championship, then secured a second four years later for his outstanding performances between the posts during Paris Saint-Germain's historic quadruple in the 2024–25 season.

Martínez, on the other hand, remains the only goalkeeper to have won the award in consecutive years. He claimed the trophy in both 2023 and 2024, driven largely by his heroics for Argentina — who lifted the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Copa América.

Thibaut Courtois and Alisson are the only other goalkeepers to have claimed the Men's Yashin Trophy.

Hannah Hampton etched her name into history in 2025 as the inaugural winner of the Women's Yashin Trophy. The goalkeeper earned the accolade following a remarkable 2024–25 season with Chelsea and England.

Hampton played a key role as the Blues secured a domestic treble, and she shone for the Three Lions on their run to the previous summer's European Championship. She is once again in contention for the award in 2026, with her sights set on back-to-back victories.
