Barcelona return to action on Monday evening looking to secure three consecutive victories to open the campaign as they welcome Rayo Vallecano to the Camp Nou.
A commanding 5–0 thrashing of Elche was followed by an equally impressive 2–0 triumph over Athletic Club in the Catalans' home debut. However, with Real Madrid hitting the ground running this season, Hansi Flick's side cannot afford to ease up against the visiting Rayo.
Flick has virtually his full squad available, with even those players who returned late from international duty this summer appearing to be back at full fitness. Barcelona do have some midfield injury concerns, but Rodri made his club debut in the last outing and there's a strong possibility he's now set to earn his first start in Blaugrana colors.
With no midweek fixture to worry about, Flick could field his strongest XI as the early battle for key positions in Barcelona's starting lineup begins to intensify.
Barcelona Predicted Lineup vs. Rayo Vallecano
GK: Joan García—Two clean sheets to open the season is an excellent start, though García will likely be itching for more action after he wasn't tested by a single shot on target in the last match.
RB: Eric García—Firmly established as Barça's first-choice right back, García has begun the season with real confidence, frequently looking to slip Lamine Yamal in behind with incisive passes from deep. He has been equally reliable at the defensive end.
CB: Pau Cubarsí—Cubarsí picked up exactly where he left off during the World Cup in his seasonal bow against Athletic Club. The young defender looks set to enjoy his finest campaign yet.
CB: Gerard Martín—It's hard to believe that Martín was still operating exclusively as a left back just a year ago. His transition to center back has been nothing short of remarkable and he appears to have a slight advantage over Andreas Christensen as Cubarsí's primary partner.
LB: Xavi Espart—"I'm really surprised, a little bit surprised about his coolness, about how he's playing," Flick remarked about Espart following Barça's victory over Athletic Club. The young fullback is turning heads at left back and will continue to hold his place until he gives his manager a reason to think otherwise.
CM: Rodri—Marc Bernal has been dependable across two matches, but it was always a matter of time before Rodri claimed his spot in the XI. Following a 30-minute substitute appearance last time out, the standout performer of the 2026 World Cup looks set to make his first start for Barça.
CM: Pedri—Pedri was at his brilliant best against Athletic Club, controlling proceedings from the center of the pitch. He'll be looking to maintain that momentum as he renews his international partnership with Rodri at club level.
RW: Lamine Yamal—Yamal showed flashes of his best form during spells against Athletic Club, but he has yet to register his first goal contribution of the season. He hasn't been consistently at his scintillating best for some time, though a single standout performance could be all it takes to reignite his spark.
AM: Fermín López—Three goals in two games for Barcelona's dynamic attacking threat. With Fermín operating at this level, Dani Olmo faces a significant hurdle in his bid to break into the starting eleven.
LW: Karim Adeyemi—Adeyemi appears to be locked in a battle with Anthony Gordon for a starting berth early in the season. The English winger performed adequately but looked to run out of steam late on against Athletic. The German will get another opportunity from the off, eager to make up for two glaring misses from the bench in the previous game.
ST: Raphinha—Who needs Julián Alvarez when Raphinha looks as though he's been playing as a striker his entire career? The Brazilian has been outstanding to begin the season and will spearhead the attack once more, aiming to add to his tally of three goals so far.
