Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has reportedly chosen not to renew his deal with the reigning French and European champions, news that is sure to delight interested parties including Liverpool.
The Reds moved swiftly to appoint new manager Andoni Iraola this summer, yet have struggled to complete any other significant signings beyond bringing in Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna. Liverpool remain in urgent need of a Mohamed Salah successor, and time is running out.
Barcola, contracted to PSG through June 2028, represents an ideal transfer target for the 20-time English champions, though his availability had always been a stumbling block ... until now. L'Equipe reports the attacker has walked away from contract extension talks with the Parisian club.
The decision was not driven by finances, given that PSG's offer included a "substantial" salary increase. Rather, Barcola's bold stance appears to stem from frustration at being reduced to a bit-part role, forced into substitute appearances while Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué occupy Luis Enrique's first-choice attack.
While this development does not necessarily confirm that Barcola is seeking a departure from the French capital this summer, it does provide Liverpool with a significant boost in their chase for the 23-year-old.
Barcola's Price Tag Could Turn Liverpool Away
Barcola would have no concerns about competing for playing time should he complete a move to Merseyside. Liverpool have a glaring vacancy on their right flank, one the PSG star could fill immediately.
Over the past two seasons, Barcola has contributed 34 goals and 26 assists for Enrique's squad, playing a pivotal role in the club's Ligue 1 and Champions League successes. The Frenchman is a dangerous presence in the attacking third, capable of producing decisive moments even when afforded limited minutes for both club and country.
Barcola shared pitch time with Doué during France's World Cup campaign this summer and still managed to contribute three goals and one assist across the tournament in North America. His pace and dribbling, combined with his creativity and versatility, make him an ideal fit—on either flank—for Liverpool's thinned-out attack.
The Reds, however, would need to raise the funds to bankroll such a high-profile deal. Fabrice Hawkins reports PSG are seeking a fee in the region of $193.4 million (€170 million) for Barcola, a valuation shaped by the recent staggering transfers of Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers.
Despite Liverpool's strong interest in Barcola, they reportedly assess the France international's value below that figure, which could derail the transfer before supporters even get the chance to envision an attack featuring Barcola, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitiké, Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai.
How Yan Diomandé's Move to Real Madrid Hurts Liverpool
Prior to the World Cup's conclusion, 19-year-old Yan Diomande had been linked with a switch to PSG. The exciting winger had reportedly agreed personal terms with the French giants, and his arrival would have pushed Barcola even closer to the exit.
However, Real Madrid stepped in and reportedly secured Diomande's signature. The transfer removes yet another source of competition for Barcola at PSG, which could entice the winger to reconsider his future at Parc des Princes.
