MLS Goals of the Week: Griezmann Stuns with a Brilliant Header, Mehmeti Dazzles with Silky Skill

Matchday 32 of the 2026 MLS season delivered plenty of drama. Clubs are pulling out all the stops to secure a postseason berth, with Decision Day on Nov. 7 drawing ever closer.

For supporters everywhere, that translated into stunning upsets, improbable strikes, and heart-stopping moments that lasted right until the final whistle.

Orlando City's Antoine Griezmann continued to assert his authority in American soccer, netting his 13th goal in just 15 appearances since his summer arrival and becoming the second-fastest player in MLS history to reach 20 goal contributions, behind only Lionel Messi, who hit the mark in 14 games.

Meanwhile, Red Bull New York's Adri Mehmeti demonstrated exactly why he's regarded as the brightest young talent in U.S. soccer. The 17-year-old's dazzling dribbling helped his side break the deadlock against Messi's Inter Miami inside the opening seven minutes.

Here are the top five goals from the weekend.

5. Morgan Whittaker Right Place, Right Time

Bounced off the crossbar and stayed in play! 🤯

As a striker, finishing every chance is just as vital as creating them in the first place.

Colorado Rapids forward Morgan Whittaker illustrated that perfectly on Saturday. Even as teammate Donovan Phillip's long-range effort—which clipped the crossbar—appeared destined to go out of play, Whittaker kept his run going into the box and pounced on a fortunate bounce that somehow kept the ball in bounds.

A straightforward header proved to be the match-winner in the 81st minute against the formidable Vancouver Whitecaps, the Western Conference's top side, keeping Colorado's playoff hopes very much alive.

4. Antoine Griezmann's Handsome Header

Since touching down in the United States this summer, Griezmann has made an immediate and lasting impression on MLS.

The Atlético Madrid icon-turned Orlando City talisman is mirroring Messi's prolific output with a goal in almost every outing.

In a home fixture against New York City FC on Saturday evening, Griezmann found the net once more in the 32nd minute with a powerful header, getting on the end of a cross delivered by fellow Designated Player Martín Ojeda. It was his fifth goal across the last four matches.

Despite the game finishing 2–2, Orlando City sit seventh in the Eastern Conference, just above the playoff cut-off.

3. Adri Mehmeti's Fancy Footwork

At just 17 years old, Adri Mehmeti is not only the engine of Red Bull New York's midfield, but a symbol of American soccer's future. Having recently earned his first cap for the U.S. men's national team, Mehmeti keeps showing he belongs among the game's elite.

It was his slick footwork on Saturday—leaving Argentine icon Rodrigo De Paul bamboozled with a crafty "L" move—that sparked the build-up to the Red Bulls' opener against Inter Miami in just the seventh minute. It was a collective team effort that forced a Casemiro own goal, but Mehmeti's silky skill will be what everyone remembers.

The Red Bulls claimed a remarkable 2–0 victory over Messi and company, a stunning upset at Sports Illustrated Stadium that keeps New York firmly in the playoff picture.

2. Breel Embolo's Superman Dive

While it wasn't enough to secure all three points, Atlanta United's Breel Embolo turned up the heat on Eastern Conference hopefuls Chicago Fire on Saturday.

The high-profile signing and World Cup veteran struck in the 68th minute with a Superman-style diving header inside the area, pulling the Five Stripes to within one of Chicago at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a 3–2 final.

Though Atlanta's playoff chances have all but evaporated, the Embolo acquisition looks increasingly shrewd. He has contributed three goals and one assist across nine appearances and has injected the squad with the belief to compete against top-tier opposition.

1. Dominik Marczuk's Rocket

Full-back Dominik Marczuk's thunderous strike from around 25 yards out was an absolute spectacle, leaving St. Louis CITY goalkeeper Benjamin Lundt with absolutely no chance of making a stop.

It was one of three consecutive unanswered goals Real Salt Lake put past the Western Conference powerhouse and reigning U.S. Open Cup champions, delivering a commanding result at America First Field to keep their grip on a playoff spot.

Marczuk was a constant threat going forward, finishing the match as the player with the most shots taken (four).
