Following nearly 19 months of back-and-forth negotiations, Real Madrid have officially agreed to extend Vinícius Júnior's contract, keeping the Brazilian at the club through 2032.
Vinícius Jr, whose previous deal was set to expire at the end of next season, had been entertaining the possibility of a summer move after extension discussions hit a wall over financial differences. Arsenal had emerged as the frontrunner to sign the winger, but the Gunners ultimately lost out to Real Madrid.
Vinícius Jr committed the next six years to the 15-time European champions, finally sealing a deal to continue his time at the Bernabéu. The agreement came just one day after both sides held a meeting in the Spanish capital, where Real Madrid put forward an improved offer believed to exceed €22 million ($25 million) annually.
Real Madrid's official announcement closed with a particularly meaningful line: "Vinícius Jr has become one of the most important players in one of the most successful chapters of our history."
Arsenal never truly had a realistic shot.
Vinícius Jr Reacts to New Contract
After wiping his entire Instagram feed clean on Wednesday, Vinícius Jr wasted no time making his first post about the contract renewal.
"Eight years at the Bernabéu are so short … six more years and FOREVER, Real Madrid," the 26-year-old wrote.
Vinícius Jr first arrived at the Bernabéu in July 2018 as an 18-year-old. Over the following eight years, the iconic No. 7 made 375 appearances, netted 128 goals and claimed 14 trophies, among them two Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns.
Even during stretches where he hasn't been at peak form, Vinícius Jr has continued to deliver for Los Blancos in the attacking third. Last season, he finished second on the team in goals (22), behind only Kylian Mbappé, while also contributing 10 assists.
Now, coming off a standout individual World Cup and with his contract situation resolved, Vinícius Jr will be eager to recapture the brilliant form he showed throughout 2023–24.
Real Madrid's Hectic Summer Overlooks One Major Concern
Securing Vinícius Jr may not even be the most significant news to emerge from the Spanish capital on Thursday. Real Madrid confirmed the record-breaking acquisition of 19-year-old Yan Diomande, who signed a seven-year deal with the Spanish giants.
Diomande joins Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Carlos Espí as new arrivals at the Bernabéu for the 2026–27 campaign, alongside head coach José Mourinho.
The Portuguese manager, who previously guided Los Blancos to their finest-ever La Liga season in 2011–12, is leading a much-needed overhaul at the world's biggest club. Real Madrid have now gone two consecutive seasons without lifting a major trophy, and a string of off-field controversies in 2025–26 only deepened the club's troubles.

Mourinho has done an impressive job so far in addressing glaring positional gaps. Vinícius Jr remains anchored on the left wing, Diomande will operate on the right, and Cucurella will cover the left flank. Dumfries, Konaté and Espí, meanwhile, offer valuable squad depth.
However, aside from an aging Silva — who will be 32 when the season begins — Real Madrid have yet to solve their midfield issues. Manchester City's Rodri is said to prefer Barcelona, and there are no clear indications the club is actively pursuing any other central midfielder.
Mourinho will need to lean heavily on Aurélien Tchouaméni, Arda Güler, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga in the coming season — a midfield unit that has shown inconsistency and a lack of creativity in recent times.
