Ruben Amorim's management team has issued a statement confirming that the former Manchester United manager has already "made the decision" to avoid taking a role at any Portuguese club.
The clarification came in response to widespread speculation linking Amorim to a position at Benfica. The Portuguese heavyweights, who once had Amorim on their books as a player, are anticipated to require a new head coach should José Mourinho be appointed at Real Madrid.
Amid the growing rumours, Amorim's agency AS1 issued a statement to Record which stated: "Ruben Amorim made the decision a long time ago to continue his career outside of Portugal.
"As such, he has not held any discussions with Portuguese clubs regarding working conditions, structure, squad composition, salary, or any other matter.
"Anything stated beyond this is pure speculation and bears no relation to reality."
What Next for Ruben Amorim?

A manager's legacy is rarely defined solely by how their tenure ends. What unfolds in their absence often shapes the broader perception of their time at a club, whether fairly or not. Xabi Alonso's spell at Real Madrid, for instance, appears all the more remarkable when contrasted with the internal turmoil that emerged after he left. Amorim, however, has experienced the reverse.
There were few kind words to mark the end of his troubled Manchester United chapter. Any retrospective assessment has been cast in an even darker light by the immediate success of his successor, Michael Carrick, who guided the very same group of players — ones who had been knocked out of the Carabao Cup second round by fourth-tier Grimsby Town — to a third-place finish in the Premier League.
Despite this, certain figures within Old Trafford continue to hold Amorim in high regard.
"I really like Ruben, he's got great ideas," Harry Maguire said back in March. "The ideas just didn't work at Manchester United. I do believe he'll go on and have an amazing career, and at his next club he'll probably go and win many, many football matches."
Where that next chapter will take place remains unclear. Portuguese reports suggest that Amorim is considering extending his break throughout the entire 2026–27 season. This would allow the 41-year-old to receive additional compensation from Manchester United while giving him sufficient time to broaden his managerial perspective by consulting fellow coaches and conducting a thorough review of what went wrong at Old Trafford.
Amorim has been connected to a range of roles, from Brazilian top-flight outfit Vasco da Gama to international management positions, though the credibility behind these reports has been questionable.
