Thomas Tuchel unveiled his 25-man squad for November's international break on Friday, with Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford conspicuously left out.
When available, Rashford has been a regular fixture in the squad under Tuchel, who stood by the winger during his United exile and subsequent loan spell at Barcelona. His most recent call-up came in September, but a hip problem forced Rashford to withdraw before making an appearance.
There had been speculation that Rashford would return to the fold this time, but Tuchel found no room for the 29-year-old in Friday's squad announcement.
Why Rashford Is Missing for England

Rashford has featured for United since the last international break. He came on for one minute as a substitute in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and started the 2–0 loss to Atlético Madrid, but has not appeared since.
That persistent hip problem has continued to trouble Rashford, causing him to miss United's last four matches across all competitions, and concerns over his fitness have compelled Tuchel to look at alternatives this month.
While Rashford is said to be progressing in his recovery, reports indicate the winger will not be fit enough to feature until after the international break, leaving Tuchel with no choice but to explore other options for England's crucial Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Spain.
In his place, Arsenal's Eberechi Eze, Barcelona's Anthony Gordon, Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha and Chelsea's Morgan Rogers will serve as Tuchel's wide attacking options on this occasion.
Having suffered defeat to Spain in the previous break, England knows it is locked in a straight battle with Croatia for second place in Group 3. Avoiding defeat will be sufficient for Tuchel's side to secure second place.
A better goal difference could even see England finish top should Tuchel's side manage to upset Spain. The Three Lions currently hold a four-goal advantage over the world champions.
