Kane and Bellingham Lead the Charge as England Unveil Their 2026 World Cup Squad Numbers

England has unveiled its squad numbers for the 2026 World Cup, with little in the way of surprises as the country's key players hold onto their favored shirts.

The Three Lions carry strong ambitions into this summer's tournament in North America, guided by German tactician Thomas Tuchel as he takes charge of a major competition for the first time. A talent-laden squad raises hopes of a maiden title in precisely 60 years.

There were some notable omissions from Tuchel's final 26-man selection—Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Harry Maguire among those left out—but the players making the trip have now received a hint of their expected roles through the shirt numbers assigned to them.

Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham Claim Preferred Numbers

Harry Kane

England's marquee names have predictably been allocated their preferred shirt numbers, with skipper and prolific striker Harry Kane awarded the No. 9 jersey for a third consecutive World Cup—matching the number he wears at Bayern Munich.

Jude Bellingham is set to be England's first-choice attacking midfielder in North America and has accordingly been given the No. 10, with Bukayo Saka (No. 7) and Marcus Rashford (No. 11) on either side—the latter clearly favored over his Barcelona successor Anthony Gordon (No. 18).

Declan Rice has secured the No. 4 as one of England's two central midfielders, with Elliot Anderson, wearing No. 8, set to partner him this summer. Jordan Pickford's retention of the No. 1 shirt comes as no surprise.

Group Stage Fixtures

The backline could see Ezri Konsa (No. 2) and Nico O'Reilly (No. 3) deployed as fullbacks, though Reece James (No. 24) looks more likely to start at right back ahead of Konsa. Given that James wears No. 24 at Chelsea, he may simply have opted for his familiar number.

John Stones carries the No. 5 shirt, while his former Manchester City colleague Marc Guéhi holds the No. 6. The pair appear to be the likely center back combination, though Konsa could challenge for a spot.

With Kobbie Mainoo assigned No. 16 and Morgan Rogers No. 17, the in-form pair may find themselves in a backup capacity. A similar situation faces the likes of Ollie Watkins (No. 19), Noni Madueke (No. 20) and Eberechi Eze (No. 21).
