Hot on the heels of securing Mauricio Pochettino for an additional four years, U.S. Soccer announced a set of four fixtures for the U.S. men's national team this autumn, highlighted by a highly anticipated showdown with Mexico.
The Stars and Stripes may have bowed out of the 2026 World Cup in the round of 16, but they won over the hearts of the nation throughout the tournament, as did Pochettino. The Argentine, who spent the bulk of his career managing at the club level, agreed to extend his tenure with the USMNT through the 2030 World Cup.
The journey to Spain, Portugal and Morocco is a lengthy one, but the new cycle kicks off during the expanded international window in September and October.
The USMNT will open with matches against Peru and Chile in September, before facing Concacaf rivals Mexico and Canada in October. All four fixtures will be played on American soil.

Pochettino Ushers in a New USMNT Chapter
Pochettino is keen to mark his new deal with what he hopes will be four consecutive victories. His players undoubtedly share that ambition following their deflating 4–1 defeat to Belgium on home turf.
"We are incredibly excited to begin this new phase of our journey with matches in front of our home supporters. The incredible atmosphere they created this summer has set the bar," Pochettino said.
"We expect our players to approach every game with the mindset that it is crucial, and they must demonstrate the passion and dedication our fans deserve. Our goal is always to face the strongest opponents available, and these matches offer a range of valuable experiences for this group as we embark on this new chapter of the U.S. men's national team."
The four matches will take place across four cities that did not serve as World Cup venues, giving supporters in Orlando, St. Louis, St. Paul and Glendale, Ariz. the opportunity to watch Pochettino's side in person.
Pochettino's Eyes Major Firsts As USMNT Manager
Despite the significant progress Pochettino has made since taking charge of the USMNT in September 2024, he has yet to record a win against either Mexico or Canada. The Argentine now has the opportunity to defeat both nations in consecutive matches.
Pochettino first encountered El Tri in just his second game as manager. He took an underwhelming squad to Mexico and watched his side fall to a 2–0 friendly defeat back in October 2024.
Five months on, the USMNT clashed with Canada in the Concacaf Nations League third-place match, with Jesse Marsch's side claiming a 2–1 win.
That summer, Pochettino had an opportunity for revenge against Mexico in the Gold Cup final, but once again his roster, made up largely of MLS players, fell short. The USMNT had to settle for the runner-up medal following a 2–1 defeat at NRG Stadium.
